Hi y'all!

After doing some snooping around the few GHD ticket threads I've found I'm still finding myself confused on what the board thinks is the best course of action for trying to get a good pair of tickets to see Groundhog Day for the best price?

Lottery: I have done some lotteries before and won them but I've heard conflicting things about how actually getting the tickets from the GHD lottery works... Is it true you get to pick the seats? If so, what are some of the best ones usually available? Pros/cons?

Discount code: I've seen a decent discount code for GHD out there for a long while that still works but it seems that for the seats the board thinks are the best to fully enjoy the show it'd still cost me about $200 total for a pair which is well over the "average paid" price on the weekly grosses. Any suggestions? Something I'm overlooking?

TKTS: Been there, done that and it's a fun experience for me. What are the odds of getting a good decent seat for the show if I won't be in line until after a matinee of Spamilton beforehand? Is it worth waiting until the day of to give this a shot?

Sorry if I missed some information on those other threads I was looking at. Just trying to get this all in one central thread (even if the show only has weeks to live)

Thanks!

Lottery by far. I've won about 7 or 8 times and you can pick the seats you'd like (a plus who someone like me who likes aisles to stretch out.

I'd say that if you're from out of town, tkts may be the best option but if you have a range of time to work it then definitely the lottery.

Thanks!! We are coming from out of town but still want to give the lottery a shot. Where are the tickets located typically? Also, how badly will it hurt me if I'm not able to pick my seats for a few hours should I win? (i'll be at work)

I second the lottery vote if youre going cheapest. if you wanna spend a bit more, enter the lotto and LOSE - they send you a code when you lose and all seats are $70. Including front row center. But you can get decent center mezz or back orch seats for $39.50 through the lotto and you get to pick the seats! It's super easy to win too. I only rushed once and sat last row mezz but center, but I rushed pretty late so I can't speak for all the seats available that way. But you def shouldn't spend over $70/ticket

I personally think the code you get from being a lotto loser is the best.  You have a better selection of seats and it's only $30 more than the lotto seats.

Depending on the day, even if you don't get to TKTS until late, you could get good seats, in fact, later can be better.  If you do go to TKTS and they don't have good seats, go to the box office.  You'll probably get something better with either a lotto or regular discount code.

Enjoy the show!! Tell your friends to see it!!

Thanks y'all! Your advice and info is greatly appreciated.

Should I TRY and lose the lottery? ha. I'd like like not to spend too much but I also know this may be my only shot to see the show. Will be in town on the 23rd so I'm holding my breath the next couple days that a closing notice won't post.

Yes, honestly.  I've entered hoping to lose.  Also, you can take the lotto loser code to the box office and get the tickets there to avoid fees, but if you don't get into town until the day of and want first crack at seats, buy in advance.

I've had luck winning by checking off the additional entries via FB and Twitter, so sticking to the base entry might help your odds if you'd prefer the loser code.

I guess the final thing I'm trying to get cleared up is would I be able to enjoy the show fully with a lottery seat? I get the loser code gives me more options but just trying to get a better idea of things.

Yes, you will. As far as I know you'll most likely get seats in the rear mezz or orchestra. It depends on how well sold the show is.  Personally, I'd go with the rear orchestra over rear mezz, but others might feel differently.

Any reason why you would prefer rear orchestra over rear mezz? Sorry to keep bothering but just curious.

Not a problem! From the pictures I've seen, I think the rear orchestra gives you a better view due do rake of the orchestra section vs the mezz. Full disclosure, I haven't sat either place. I will say, if you get a code that lets you get front row seats, do it over rear orch/mezz.

For the GHD lottery remember that you find out the day before the show if you won, so you need to enter in advance. You can enter about a week worth of shows at a time, so can enter a week before and find out if you won the day before. This gives you lots of time to do TKTS the next day.

Enter the lottery- as others have said, you'll get discounted tickets whether you win or lose, and you'll get to pick your seats- the prize is the price, not the actual ticket!

OK last question...how screwed would I be if I won the lottery but wasn't able to select tickets for a few hours? Just curious

When I won the lottery, all the winners were within the same four rows on the side orchestra (not sure about mezz), so I don't think they are scattered all over the theater. So, at least as far as the orchetsra on the day I went, you would have just been three rows behind the early people.

I've had very good luck with lottery. The most recent seating maps mostly had strips of 2 seats running down either side of the orchestra and then the back 4 or so rows more or less in their entirety to choose from, along with seats starting about 2-3 rows back in front side mezz. The closest I've gotten with lotto was this Wed with Row F side orchestra almost as soon as I got the winner notification. I've gotten Row H or so later in the day, so even if you can't purchase immediately, you should still have some choices.

My seating preference for the first time would actually be front mezz if you can get them. The perspective for "Nobody Cares" works better from further away and as someone who likes watching for technical stuff, I like being able to see the turntables in action.

For me at least, I've always seen mezz seats available and I've bought them as late as 9pm (you have until 10pm to buy them - of course earlier is better for better seats, but you should be fine if you wait for a bit). The seats are different every day though - I won for yesterdays matinee and evening show. The matt had several good center mezz seats open, the evening show was mostly back mezz and back side orch. Depends on the day I guess. On a weekday you should have plenty of great options, I'd imagine. My recommendation is to try to see it from the center more-so than close/far/orch/mezz. With all the cool staging and magic tricks, sitting in the center is kind of how it's designed to be viewed to get the full effect, at least in my experience.

I've entered the lottery twice and won both times and the seats were the same, almost center front row mezz and they were great.
