Incorrect. They had in fact discussed a television miniseries at one point, as Musical Master mentioned. If you google this, there are interviews and stories about it.
^I think one of the reasons why the miniseries idea was dropped was that Linda Woolverton was too busy writing AIDA for Disney Theatricals at the time.
^Good choice, because I personally don't think Linda Woolverton is even that good of a writer, I think the reason she did so well with Beauty & the Beast was because of the guidance she was taking from the late great Howard Ashman which she was also able to carry on into adapting her script for the Broadway show.
If you take a look at some of her other credits such as Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, The Lion King (film), Mulan, and Aida, she was only listed as a co-writer.
The rest of her (infamous) works of course include Lestat, Alice in Wonderland, and Maleficent...
The only work I have enjoyed by Woolverton's own hands was none other than MALEFICENT, but I guess I'm in the minority about it. But from what I read a long time ago, Linda was hired by Disney to revise HOMEWARD BOUND for Caroline Thompson because it needed more "substance". But everyone forgets that Jonathan Roberts was hired to help Linda with some slight changes here and there to make it a good movie (which it is to me).
I hated Maleficent, I thought it was filled with nothing but predictable (and cliched) plotpoints, two-dimensional characters, a very idiotic princess, three cartoonish side characters, and a very anti-climatic climax!
Please don't get me going on about this, because these boards are about Wicked, not Ms. Woolverton's career.
