I hardly think this show is appropriate for other reasons, but the principal is really off-base.

"In that email, Burch says the principal wrote that homosexuality does not exist in a conservative community such as South Williamsport. "

Aww... always nice to see places near where I grew up continue to lead the nation in stupidity.

I do like their research, though:

"Cast members from “Spamalot” perform the Monty Python musical nightly on Broadway."

I don't think its appropriate for high schoolers, either, especially since this appears to be a 7-12 school. However to say that homosexuality doesn't exit in their community is ridiculous. Do only schools with a Jewish population learn about the holocaust?

I also think the school has every right to say no. They weren't even producing it until next spring. No work has been lost, no one has suffered.

I'm in agreement with all you guys on this.

It seems kind of strange that since they're so conservative they would have ever considered Spamalot to begin with.

....but the world goes 'round

There is often disconnect between the director and the administration.

I do not seek permission, per se, but my principal would have the right to overrule any decision I make. I often "announce" before we talk about things. (however, there isn't too much I wouldn't be allowed to do. We had full support to do August a few years back.)

My little brother just did this at his high school and it was quite amazing, but I was surprised that they were able to do it there, especially because it was a devout Catholic school. He had lots of fun working on it, though. It's a shame that a high school won't get to put on such a great show.
