I don't think its appropriate for high schoolers, either, especially since this appears to be a 7-12 school. However to say that homosexuality doesn't exit in their community is ridiculous. Do only schools with a Jewish population learn about the holocaust?
I also think the school has every right to say no. They weren't even producing it until next spring. No work has been lost, no one has suffered.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
There is often disconnect between the director and the administration.
I do not seek permission, per se, but my principal would have the right to overrule any decision I make. I often "announce" before we talk about things. (however, there isn't too much I wouldn't be allowed to do. We had full support to do August a few years back.)

My little brother just did this at his high school and it was quite amazing, but I was surprised that they were able to do it there, especially because it was a devout Catholic school. He had lots of fun working on it, though. It's a shame that a high school won't get to put on such a great show.
