I love brilliant set designs as much as (or more than) the next guy, but I consider the set being the star evidence of rather glassy jaw.

Pal Joey - Sure, 10,000-1 that it is any good. How are they going to do the climatic fight every night? Just think of the ending , is Rocky going to break out into song and sing "Yo Adrian". OMG - unless proven wrong this is one of the dumbest ideas for a show in a long time.

In keeping with the single-moniker flops that have played the Winter Garden -- SOPHIE, JIMMY, and GEORGY -- if ROCKY gets knocked down and out, that leaves the Winter Garden available for booking REBECCA.

The Winter Garden LOVES flops!

Other than Sophie, Jimmy and Georgy we have:

Make A Wish
The Vamp
Shangri-La
Juno
Saratoga
All American
Doctor Jazz (!)

and, of course, the most important musical to ever be written, performed or be parsed syllable by syllable on this board- FOLLIES!

Carol Lawrence -- of both SARATOGA and SHANGRI-LA as well as WEST SIDE STORY at the Winter Garden -- used to tell a story about the set of SHANGRI-LA. Apparently there were two, huge gold mountains on stage and during set changes in performance, they often crashed into each other and would threaten to topple.

And Whizzer, let's not forget NOWHERE TO GO BUT UP!

Oh yes, and the Civil War take on Verdi, MY DARLIN' AIDA!!! Updated On: 4/29/13 at 10:20 AM

Here's one of the songs from the show that Drew sang at what looks like a press event:

Egghumor- How could I forget Nowhere To Go But Up?! :)

Funny story about Shangri-La. I've always wanted to hear that score and have never been able to get my hands on an audio. Would love if someone could PM any info about it.

How many 80's/90's films do they still need to bring to Broadway and, consequently, flop badly?

Then I guess it's a good thing Rocky is from the 70s? At any rate, I've never been a fan of the film, so I'm not particularly excited for this show, but it would be nice if Drew Sarich could transfer with the production. Loved him in Hunchback in Berlin.

I am a fan of the movie. I own it on DVD. But, even I question this working. It just doesn't scream musical theater to me.

This is the video on the official website. I think it looks interesting. Alex Timbers has a pretty solid track record.

I'd love to see a revival of the inaugural Winter Garden show: Tortajada and Her Sixteen Moorish Dancing Girls in a Spanish Ballet. The majority of the music was by...Jerome Kern! And there is a character named Eczema Johnson who sings "Paris is a Paradise for Coons"! How can we get this back on stage?!?! Is there at least a recording of first act finale, The Edinburgh Wriggle?

I think Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Never Ending story could work quite well as musicals.
