Romney/Pawlenty... the human equivalent to mayonnaise on white bread.

"Part of me wonders if the Republican establishment hasn't already essentially abandoned Romney and 2012 and are now quietly preparing for 2016."

I thought of that as well but if that is true why are they spending SO MUCH $$$ on him?

Kad, how very dare you! That is insulting to mayonnaise. Clearly, it's Miracle Whip on white bread.

Paul Ryan? The man who came up with the plan to eliminate Medicare?? Oh...wouldn't that just be lovely?

A lot of the money is coming from people who would obviously benefit from Romney. He motivates *them*.

I don't know. Perhaps they really think they have a chance with Romney. But the party is in such a mess. They would benefit from losing a battle in order to get it together. To start to build up viable, charismatic figures the party can rally around. To deal with the fractures due to the the Tea Party and the fundamentalists.

Right now, the Democrat establishment is united and finally getting nasty. And the Republicans don't know what to do.

And Paul Ryan... yech. He's essentially another Romney: handsome, impersonal, cold. He has the advantage of being young and somewhat exciting.

Oh God Please have him pick Sarah Palin (hey, I can dream can't I?)

I keep hearing Condi's name come up. I think he may very well pick a woman. He is gonna need the women's vote.....badly!

Though like others she has stated she wouldn't run, I think if Romney goes for a female VP it'll be Susana Martinez, the current governor of New Mexico.

I really don't think he's smart enough to go with a woman or a Latino, let alone a Latina woman.

And I don't think he's going to go with anyone smarter than he is or more interesting.

So I think it will be someone as dull as Pawlenty or with pre-approved conservative credentials like Ryan.

Oh--and he will never release those tax returns. He's gone into hitting-back mode, as lame as that may be.

Then we need Grampy McCain to go all "I'm old and I'll speak my mind" mode on his ass.

I agree with PalJoey. He will drop out before he releases those tax returns. He must be hiding something REALLY bad.

How this did not come out in 2008 when he ran and how none of the other Republican candidates found this is very odd. I'm just amazed at his arrogance and stupidity.Mitt thinking this was no big deal or that he was above the law or that he could talk his way out of this becoming an issue I think shows the same arrogance we saw in John Edwards.

I don't even think it's that he's hiding something he thinks is "bad." He's hiding something people with his wealth consider perfectly normal. They hire accountants to find as many legal tax deductions as possible in order to bring their tax rate as low as possible.

If they were successful and that tax rate is far below what the average voter may be paying--then he's absolutely right that each of those deductions would provide endless fodder for the media and the Obama campaign.

The really disturbing thing about this is not that Romney's hiding something illegal that would turn off voters. It's that Romney's hiding something 100% legal that is equally distasteful.

Exactly- He will say it's legal and Obama will be able to use that to FIX THE DAMN TAX CODES!!!!

The Warren Buffet rule would be a good start.

McCain thought a woman with an in-the-process scandal, a pregnant teen, and Secessionist husband was less of a risk than Romney!! That should tell even the Tea Baggers something.

I think his tax returns would reveal that he committed fraud when he voted in Massachusetts in 2010.

I haven't heard that possibility. What would the fraud be?

All the conservative blog polls are saying he should pick Rubio for VP, so that would be the smart thing for him to do, which is why I think he'll pick Ryan.

In 2010, Romney used his son's adress to vote in Massachusetts, claiming that he was living in his son's basement. Believe it or not, he no longer owned property in Massachusetts then but he voted there.

Below is the link from Forbes, that liberal rag.

madbrian--if you read the comments below the article, the author concedes that no law was broken.

Apparently, it would be fraud only if he were also registered to vote at his new address.

For some reason this is another bizarre thing rich people do that seems weird to us regular folks- Rush Limbaugh and Ann Colter both maintain "Voting addresses" that are not their legal residences.

Stewart sums it up perfectly:

"Nobody cares that Mitt Romney is rich. It’s Romney’s inability to understand the institutional advantage that he gains from the government’s tax code largesse, that’s a little offensive to people, especially considering Romney’s view on anyone else who looks to the government for things like, I don’t know, food and medicine."
