Hey everyone. Im going to be going to NYC from March 10-16 with a group from my university. With alot of new stuff coming this spring and thing left over from opening earlier this year I figure many of you will have seen more than I and can offer some insight. SO far I am seeing: Sleep No More, Death of a Salesman, War Horse and the first preview for Newsies. The shows Im interested in seeing are Porgy and Bess, Venus in Fur, The Best Man, Jesus Christ Superstar and Adam Pascal in Memphis. So any insight as to what shows you suggest is greatly appreciated. I am able to see 2-3 more shows.
I am leaning very heavily towards Porgy because I love Audra and feel the oppurutnity to hear that great cast sing the score might be something really special and my trip this year is much more play heavy. After that i have various reasons for seeing the others I listed. Also very curious about the voices in JCS. So please, fire suggestions and reasons at me!

I reeally liked P&B....I cant vouch for any of the others, but Memphis (while I've heard it's MUCH better with Pascal) is nothing to write home about.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I saw Porgy and Bess and thought it was incredible. It was the best show I've ever *heard*, the singing is commendable.
Venus in Fur is becoming quite a big deal on the east coast so it might not be something that you want to miss.
I thoroughly enjoyed Memphis, but I saw it with an understudy for Felicia. Looking at the DVD performance and other material, I have a feeling that I would have felt much differently if I saw Montego Glover which is who you would probably see.
I saw JCS when it was in Stratford, and in my opinion it really is fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of the show itself (I prefer a musical to have actual dialogue scenes, but to each their own), but I thoroughly enjoyed this production. The second act in particular is very well done, and I found the final moments of the show to be breathtaking. The cast is excellent, strong voices all around (though I saw Carver as Pilate, so I can't speak on that role). The main trio carry the show nicely, Paul Nolan and Josh Young gave amazing performances vocally and dramatically with their meaty roles, and Chilina Kennedy does a great job with a pretty thankless role. Overall, it is a very tight production with plenty of grit to keep the rock edge, and it made me enjoy a musical that on paper is not one I care for.
I might end up seeing it again in March, I'm already seeing Venus in Fur and Once on my trip, and I've yet to decide on a third show because my trip is scheduled a couple weeks before many of the shows I'm dying to see (Peter and the Starcatcher, Leap of Faith, and more) begin previews. My mom (travel companion) loves JCS and didn't get to see it, so that may wind up as my final show.
Give me a bottle of bourbon and half a chicken and I'll conquer the world!
Thank you so far for the opinions. Heres a bump just to get a few more from others. I think P&B is gonna be for sure. So im looking right now at 1 or 2 more.
