I saw a school production of "Anything Goes" in 2004 and one of my favorite songs was "Heaven Hop." However, I read that the 1987 Broadway revival did not include this song and this year's revival is based off of that revival. So, will "Heaven Hop" not be sung in this production either?

No. That character will sing "Buddie, Beware," as in the 1987 revival.

Haven Hop is not actually from ANYTHING GOES. It was first heard in the 1928 musical PARIS. It was interpolated into the 1962 off-Broadway revival of AG but it is not part of the regular score.

Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

However, when you license the show, you ARE licensing Heaven Hop. I produced/choreographed the show about 10 years ago (maybe a little more) and it was INDEED included.

Many of the songs in this adaptation aren't originally from Anything Goes either.

I love the Heaven Hop. They did the off-Broadway version when Dee Hoty played Reno in Seattle many years back. I much prefer that version, offensive Chinese cohorts and all.

I was in the '62 version my sophomore year in college. Miserable experience all around.

I *love* the Heaven Hop. If it's not in the revival, I will miss it.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Problem is you can get the rights for either the '62 off-Broadway version or LCT Revival with Patti LuPone, the differences are:

Bonnie is changed to Erma in the LCT version
Erma now sings "Buddie, Beware" right before the finale, instead of "Heaven Hop" in act one, "Let's Step Out" is also cut.
Elisha Whitney has a song, "I Want to Row on the Crew" during the cabin scene, followed by a sailor quartet
Lord Evelyn sings "The Gypsy in Me" as opposed to Reno and Evelyn singing "Let's Misbehave"
"Friendship" is a duet in the LCT version (Reno & Moonface) while it's Reno, Moonface & Billy in the 62 version
"I Get a Kick of of You" is the first song, not later in the show. And "Take Me Back to Manhattan" is not present.

Add to that script changes, and you have the main differences.

I say put "Kate, the Great", the song Merman refused to sing because of the dirty lyrics, back in!

Yes to Kate the Great. I also like Where Are the Men? from the 1934 version. BTW, thw '34 AG is also available. The Civic Light Opera Company will be mounting it in Toronto in May of this year.

For many years after the '62 revival that was the version generally done by regional/community groups. Then after the Lincoln Center version finished its New York run and tours THAT was the version usually done.

I've seen both, and like both but find the 1987 is closer to the original. For example in the 1962 edition I get a Kick Out of You is sung near end of Act One to underscore Reno's growing feelings for Lord Evelyn. In the original (and 1987)Reno sings it in the first scene to Billy. Problem is that being sung to Billy sets up the expectation that Reno and Billy will ened up together.

I read somewhere that Porter intentionally put "I Get a Kick Out of You" at the top of the show to discourage those who liked to make a "fashionably" late entrance at the theatre. Basically saying "If you want to hear the hit song from the show, then you better arrive on time."
