BoB - Please put on your glasses. I did not ask for the dictionary definition. I asked for yours. Considering that talent is 99% subjective (and you seem to behave as if you are the sole judge of determining talent), I wanted to know your definition of talent and how you judge it in others, but clearly you are unable to grace us with your expertise. But in the shadow of the loss of your infinite and immeasurable wisdom, I applaud you for your use of dictionary skills. I don't know how I could have acquired that information without you.

The only part of your post that was sensible was "in my opinion". That's fine. But don't go making declarations that your opinion is by any means absolute. Look how long it took you to actually use that phrase. Your very first comment was a stab at the choreography (like we've never heard this from you before) that really had nothing to do with the subject. Then you segue right into Marissa and her talent. There was no cause for it. You just wanted any reason to say something bad about the show.

From everything I've read from you, your opinion is extremely narrow-minded and unsupported. The majority opinion of critics and Tony-voters has been that Marissa is indeed talented. From the people I know that have seen her perform, the majority opinion is that she is talented. The fact that you personally didn't like her performance is not much of a benchmark. If you've never lost money on a show that you ended up not enjoying, I can see how it would be a rude awakening. Welcome to the club. Your childish behavior really just negates anything intelligent you may have to say. Like your icon, your posts are immature and vindictive.

ok, enough is enough! Hairspray is an incredible production! It is the 60's, so the dances are appropriate to the time, and as mentioned, they are "Teen" performers and have been asked from the rehearslas on by the choreographer, to dance to that character...many of them were dance majors at top universities, but they are to dance like teens in the 60's, NOT professional dancers as they all could if asked to do so.....hello!!! get with it! also, i know that the tour cast is rehearsing soon for this show and were already given their assignments on what they were singing from... South Park songs to songs originally set for Hairspray that were cut, as well as Marc's big hits off-broadway and on the radio, etc. very little, if anything, will be left out. A real night to remember. And if you have not seen the tour...just check it out for you naysayers in this thread...Carly Jibson is dynamite and so are her cast friends in supporting roles. all triple threats deluxe!!!
any of you audition today in Chicago for "Hairspray" at the open call?? let us know how it went. and someone please review the night with Shaiman for us, I will be out of town, sucks!

Don't bother, Starlight. He knows all this. Back on a "board like this one" he never let up on this topic. Even when no less an authority than the New York Times dance critic wrote an article praising the Hairspray choreography, BoB (by any other name) replied with a very grown-up response along the lines of "Oh yeah, what do they know?" I'm sorry, "OH YEAH, WHAT DO THEY KNOW?" That one could use the same criteria to blast Millie, a show BoB praises, the way he blasts Hairspray, seems lost on him.

After weeks, nay months, of exploring this topic with him on a "board like this one," BoB finally revealed that his hopes for Hairspray were so high, so through the roof, that no production on Earth, past, present or future, could ever have lived up to what he thought he might see onstage. What we have, is a widdle boy who woke up vewwy disapointed one Xmas morning.

And now let's all just move on dot org. I'm glad the Chicago benefit is going to be a big success.

Just reserved my ticket to the early show. The manager Erik told me they were only going to have cameras for the first show and there would be no feed for the second show. The later show is pretty open but the first is sold out. If any one else is going PM me and let's get together.

PEACE.

Cameras for the 1st show only? That's news to me. Well, it doesn't really matter unless you wanted to come later and watch it being simulcast in the club for FREE.

I'll be there. If I get on the microphone and ask for Sueleen will you raise your hand?

Sueleen...i just found out that they WILL be filming and simulcasting the 2nd show as well so there's enough footage for the DVD project they're hoping to put out of the event!!! wheeeeee

Hey Matt...I found out the reason the club didn't have ticket information was because they were only available to the board of directors and supporters of The Harbor and Bonaventure House (the 2 charities). They released the ticket sales to the club (Eric) on the 21st.

I just talked to Eric (the GM at Gentry on State) about all the questions raised in here. So here's the Skinny...

A. The event is NO COVER, 21 years and older, 2-drink minimum (if you don't drink at least 2 of something while there...you'll dehydrate...LOL)

B. The seats IN the cabaret room are the ones with a price on them -- $100 for the seats AT the piano; $50 for the seats just 4-5 feet from the piano; $25 for the hightop barstool seats around the room...about 65 seats total for each show.

C. There will be a silent auction held from 7pm until around midnight or 1am.

D. There will be LIVE auctions in the main bar at the end of each show.

E. Both shows will be simulcast into the main bar on the big tv with house sound for those unable to get or afford a seat IN the cabaret room.

F. There will be pre-sales of the event DVD at the club that night also.

anything else i find out....i'll post!
