I hear that les miserables is playing at the paper mill playhouse in millburn,NJ november-december 2010 and that love never dies has been pushed back to spring 2011.Here's my problem: me and my mother a planning to visit NYC but since the shows open and close at different times,we can only see one or the other when we visit(we live in california).I haven't seen Les Miserables or LND but if you have, which show is the better one to see?i've been dying to see les miz but LND is so irresistible(okay I really only want to see Ramin Karimloo but god only knows if HE will play the phantom!)and i just hate what has happened to meg(I read the plot online already and did the same with les miz)But I still want to see it.so ,my mom is letting me make the choice but i want to make a good one.
I would say LND for one reason... Les Mis is iconic, and you will get plenty of chances to see it in the future. LND is most likely going to die soon! haha... But Les Mis is by far the better show!
The "Love Never Dies" album is gorgeous, and actually a lot better than the show itself. I listen to the recording all the time. And even though the story is as boring as watching paint dry, the sets are gorgeous, and we know Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Bogess, who are both absolutely amazing onstage, are reprising their roles in NY, so I'd actually recommend seeing that! And as Minicko88 says you'll get to see Les Mis in the future!
I am not sure if the production of Les Miserables that is going to be playing Papermill is part of the NETworks tour or not. If it is, you might want to see if that particular tour is stopping anywhere near you in California.
Otherwise, I would go with Les Miserables. Love Never Dies does have a good score, but I do feel that Webber butchered a classic story and mucked around too much with characters that theatre fans know and love.

Tom Stoppard's Rock N Roll
Go for Love Never Dies. There will always be another opportunity to see Les Mis, and people are managing to find quite a bit to love about Love Never Dies, in spite of the gaping plotholes, insane mischaracterisation, and complete unnecessaryness.
And unlike a lot of people who are outspoken on their opinions of LND, I have seen both shows and would happily see either one of 'em again. :3

I know that this is what was originally planned, but I thought I read something recently (maybe on WhatsOnStage?) that said that this was not the case after all and they were going to cast new people when/if it opens on Broadway.

Yeah ,that's the other thing I'm concerned about because if someone else is playing the phantom then I probably won't want to see it.I hope that les miz will come to california but I'm wondering if it will. Updated On: 4/27/10 at 11:31 AM
Hottieho13, I've seen Ramins' understudy, Tam Mutu, and he was just as amazing, maybe even more electric, to be honest! So, I don't think you should write it off just because Ramin might not be doing it. But if it comes over why wouldn't Sierra do it? It would be stupid re-casting "Christine", Sierra has after all worked on B'way before! Mind you, I'd love it if they brought Summer Strallen over as well, out of all the amazingly talented Strallen-sisters she is my favourite!
The new 25th Anniversary production of Les Mis will be touring the US next year so there is everychance of it coming to your doorstep.
LND is not as bad as people say, and yes IF (it is NOT confirmed they will reprise) Ramin and Sierra do NYC you have to see them. Yes Tam (Ramins understudy) is very good, but Ramins Phantom is something special, as is Sierra as Christine, her voice is just 'wow' . If they go down the Hugh Jackman (as was one rumour) type cast I would be less keen to recommend it . I would wait and see if/when LND is announced and the cast, then decide.
I LOVE (honestly LOVE) Hugh Jackman, but I too hope they will not go down that road, cause he cannot sing the Phantom. He'd be a good Raoul, though I doubt he'd play a supporting character!
I hope Hugh won't be in it! I mean don't get me wrong, I like him and I heard Tam is very good but there's something about Ramin's phantom that's very special.....
The production of Les Mis that's going to be at Paper Mill is touring after their run there, so I'd check to see if it's stopping anywhere near you before you make a trip out here just to see it.
yeah seirra's voice brings tears to my eyes.when I heard he sing "think of me" I was just reduced to tears. Then the next time I heard emmy rossum's version in the POTO movie i pushed mute.
