I actually enjoyed the movie very much, and previously was only familiar with UNUSUAL WAY. I'd like to purchase a recording and wonder which of them do people seem to like the most. For example, I have copies of the OBCR, the current revival, and the movie soundtrack of HAIR. If I had to pick one, I'd pick the movie soundtrack because the vocal performance of EASY TO BE HARD is so amazing. Any thoughts about the NINE recordings would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am a huge fan of the revival recording. It's really well produced, and the performances are very true to what you would have seen on-stage. That said, I'd also recommend owning the two disc remastered OBC (because it's the original cast!) and the London concert (because the chorus is huge, so the ensemble numbers are incredible).
I just bought the revival recording and I LOVE it. I can't stop listening to it! While I loved the movie soundtrack, I chose to buy the revival recording because it is more complete (has more songs and dialogue). I would go with the revival recording or the OBCR because you will get a chance to hear the songs in the musical that the movie left out.
OBCR (2-disc remaster). Love all the memorable "character" voices and the completeness of it.
I do like the "bigness" of the concert recording with Jonathan Pryce. It's very energetic, too. It's a huge orchestra and chorus (with men!). I'm not as fond of the individual performances overall. Still, well worth a listen.
The revival recording is my least favorite. The energy seems low and "off." And the performances seem less passionate and more calculated. Technically, it's a well-done recording. I'm not a big fan, though.

Can you still buy the OBCR in stores (Barnes and Noble music... etc.) or do you have to order it off Amazon or something? I would really like to listen to it. Thanks!
I own both the OBCR and the revival recording. I think I've only listened through the OBCR twice, but the revival is one of my favorite CDs that I own.

The OBCR was recently re-issued and is pretty easy to come by. I actually had an easier time finding that than the revival recording.
