She's full of crap. If she's tweeting about the actors during breaks, why is she writing in present tense? And what, was she taking notes during the actual auditions to tweet later? How would she remember everything she wanted to tweet?

Just read the BWW interview. She's full of crap. If she just wanted to communicate to the auditioners with some helpful, "constructive" criticism, she would actually, you know, COMMUNICATE with them. Take a few seconds at the end of each audition and give them your remarks. Face to face. Help them learn something, if that's really your intent.

I'm sure she doesn't have the backbone to handle that. So she'd rather publish her superior, "anonymous" snark.

Does she think she's helping auditioners at large by tweeting "he's so cute" or the degrading remarks about looks? Or voices? How is that helpful?

She's not helping anyone do anything. She's also clueless about her job and, because she can't wrap her head around the impact of publishing comments on the Worldwide Web, the whole world now knows she's clueless.

Agreed, LizzyCurry. That and other anti-Equity tweets from her, her assistant, and colleagues speak for themselves. Daryl just wrote this to try and take the high road for something she clearly thought made her look important, and it backfired.

I also love that she's calling it BwayTwitterGate, when she's never actually done anything on Broadway.

I don't agree that she should be expected to offer her "constructive criticism" inside the audition room -- I suppose if that happens and it happens constructively, so be it and more power to her, but auditions are meant to be a tightly run ship and not a class. The American Idol world has many people convinced that you sing, and the people behind the table put their pencils down and devote time to sharing their thoughts, naughty or nice. But if an audition went poorly, all I'd expect anyone to say is "Thank you" and move on, whether they're sweet or bitches on wheels. THIS is a reason why "this business it tough"; Her being able to use your audition time for her amusement and her sideline career as a blogger/snarker... is NOT.

What's ridiculous is claiming to be giving people a view of life behind the table by criticizing someone's skirt (We can't see it. How do we know if we would have fallen into the "I don't think my outfit is Wiccan" trap?) or someone's headshot not looking like them (We've all heard that 1000 times, and can't compare this person to the shot.). I'm amazed how many people have defended what she's said as helpful. Did you not know you should resemble your headshot, and are you now rethinking your skirt repertoire? There is ZERO intent to be helpful here, rahter every intent for self-publicity and self-aggrandizement. ("Will I keep tweeting? Come to %*&$%^$#& and find out!")

The $25-off Tweet Special for her class is a really nice touch.

I counted 24 tweets during her business day, and I know at least one was deleted. That's a WHOLE lotta downtime and breaks.

She isn't expected to do anything but act professionally. She didn't. She's the one who said she was offering these "twitting" comments as constructive criticism, so people could learn something. Read her Twits. I did.

Who are all these "sock puppets" like EvilPip who signed up as posters yesterday and today?

Are you Daryl herself or one of her friends or assistants?

She's really a "nice person," I hear, so she must have lots of those.

Have you read anything I've written before coming up with that? I've been lambasting the woman! I'm one of the more outraged people on this board. Read one thing I've written and tell me how it sounds like I might be a Daryl friend, please? And yes, I joined yesterday because it was the first time I felt compelled to chime in on such a discussion.

The only thing I said that didn't jibe with some other lambasters is that telling DE to offer her criticism in the room is not the appropriate way to go either; such a thing could never be expected in an open call.

Other than that, it looks like we were agreeing. A+ on reading comprehension there.

EvilPip---Admittedly, I didn't read any of your previous posts. I just noticed the last one and the brand new joining date.

But you didn't read mine either. It was clear that Daryl herself had said she'd offered up her Twits as "constructive criticism" so that actors could learn something.

My suggestion that she actually GIVE constructive criticism instead of pretend to, was based on her own excuse for her inexcusable behavior. It didn't wash with me. Still doesn't.

But I'm not "expecting" casting directors to give constructive criticism. Only the ones that "think" they already are and aren't.

Anyway, welcome to the board. If you're legit (and I've no reason to think you're not), time will tell, and I look forward to reading your future posts.

(Yes, that's a cautious "welcome," but a "welcome" nonetheless.)

I very much hope Daryl reads -- and seriously considers -- Paul Russell's statement. He hit the nail on the head, I think.

As for her statement, it's unsurprisingly a load of crap. She just keeps repeating that her Twitter is meant to be informative and making excuses for herself.

I've yet to be contacted by Equity. I'd like to hear from them, as their opinion undoubtedly matters to me.

DE's comment about Equity was timed before the BWW blogs got to it. I was following her before the story broke when there was talk about AEA banning any casting directors from using social networking sites during auditions, including Twitter and Facebook. It's the same outrage that workers at ESPN had when the company said they could only use Twitter for ESPN-related news updates. Updated On: 8/13/09 at 11:48 AM

I wasn't questioning that she hadn't been contacted, but rather that she cares about their opinion. It didn't seem that way yesterday! Regardless of whether the comment about Equity was before or after the BWW blogs got it, it was after there had already been complaints:

I can understand THINKING some of these things -- I mean, we've all thought sarcastic crap when meeting someone new, or sitting in on a job interview, or even just people-watching at Starbucks. But you keep that stuff to yourself, or if you must express it, put it on your protected PERSONAL Twitter (which she has) or your locked livejournal, or your limited profile-enabled Facebook.

Same here. It's common sense. Hell, I'm not and never have been an actor and I knew all that.

Her sentiment stems from what I often see online: "I'm not mean, I'm honest!," which is something I admit having used in my own defense at times. However, this is her professional work Twitter, and as such, it should be, well, professional. And it's not.

I'm sure I'll just be repeating what many have said in previous posts. The audition room is a place where actors should feel safe, a place where actors should feel supported, and a place where actors should feel comfortable taking risks. Unfortunately, Ms. Eisenberg has created an environment where auditioners now will be more caught up in wondering whether or not they will be 'tweeted' about rather than being able to focus on the job at hand...giving a great audition. While her 'tweets' are anonymous, it wouldn't be too hard to for a person to figure out if they were being referred to based on the timestamp on each post to Twitter.

I've auditioned for many casting directors over my 9 years in the business in NYC and most have been wonderful experiences. I remember hearing on multiple occasions from the big casting offices (Binder, Johnson-Liff when they were around, Tara Rubin, etc) that casting directors want you to be good....it makes their job easier. Binder's office regularly offers work sessions with actors who are down to the end of the audition process and up for certain roles. That's a true way support a performer....a far cry from lambasting auditions on Twitter whether it's anonymous or not.

Plain and simple, there's a professional way to handle auditions, and her actions are very unprofessional. If she's truly so busy casting a show, I would think those moments she takes to constantly update her Twitter could be better spent doing her actual job of...casting the show.
