I read Bailey Hanks, Former Elle Woods, is in it. I wanna know why she's doing these high school roles when she can do something much better then that. but at least shes in a show.

This isn't new, but anyway, it makes me mad because Autumn (also from Legally Blonde: Search for the Next Elle Woods) was involved with workshops. Now Bailey stole another role from her! (If it wasn't obvious from this post, I wanted Autumn to win)

She is still young, she can read young on stage, that is why she is playing a high school aged character.

Also, Bailey didn't steal ANYTHING from Autumn. Autumn didn't even read for the part of Muffin, Haviland Stillwell did. Bailey auditioned for the role and she got it fair and square (Autumn is in a play in the Fringe, fyi). Autumn IS however involved with Ferguson and Jamail's other project Nicholas & Alexandra (which should have a reading in October). Autumn is also in her late 20's and does not READ 17 at all.

pianolin i concur with absolutely everything you just wrote, except for one thing...
autumn just played 17-19 year olds in the last 2 things i have seen her in and she looked and seemed younger than some of the actual teenagers/young 20 somethings on stage with her. and i also understand that she plays 18ish in her fringe play. which i also hear is REALLY good!
i can't wait to see VOTE! too, i love ryann and steven. and i bet bailey will be great as muffin.

I really love everything I've heard from Vote, and can't wait to see it at the Fringe.

Yes, Bailey is one part of the show- but the rest of the cast is fantastic too, not to mention the songs :) Can't wait to see Nina Sturtz and Morgan Karr and everyone else rock it out.

And even if they did both audition for the role...Bailey was chosen. She would have stolen nothing. It's not like the Fringe is worried about 'stunt' casting.

BTW...Kathleen Monteleone just did a turn at The Public's SPF Festival in "The Departure Lounge" also starring Jonathan B. Wright and Nick Blaemire. According to the bio she was "Spiritual Sandy". She was pretty good, actually.

Nina is going to ROCK. They actually have a new cast member. Krystal Joy Brown, who was supposed to play Nikki, is no long in it and instead it is Sasha Shloan.

I listed to some of the music from this show and love 'hands of surgeon.' I've had it in my head for days. Great cast members, too!

I saw Vote! tonight and I must say it has a TON of potential. Sure there were technical problems...but hello? it was the first night of fringe. The performers were REALLY great and the cast had charisma out the butt hole. The chorus was a really nice addition to the show and one they should keep if it moves anywhere...which I'm sure it will. Steven Jamail's music is infectious and Ryann Ferguson's book and lyrics bring down the house. Go see it...i recommend it.

Are you kidding?!? Technical difficulties, mediocre performaces, over-choreographed numbers, and any technical aspects at all aside -- what on earth was that material? What was that show about? Who's story was it? It was a dramaturgical mess that was full of ideas without any kind of focus. Too many of the songs sounded the same and not enough of them were moving the plot forward. It was decent... but in order for this show to have more of a life outside of middle schools, it's going to need to kick it up a notch.

Please elaborate Act4ever. Can you at least give SOME positives? Any standouts among the mediocre performances? Design? (I know it's only fringe, but still) Was the material at least somewhat smart. Funny?

uh oh. poor bailey. i think she is just out of her league at this point. she was fine as muffin, but it was still "bailey doing an impression of laura bell playing elle" as muffin. and with some of the other talent on stage with her, her voice and acting chops just aren't quite there. and i was so excited to see her!!
i thought the show on the whole was great. morgan carr is hilarious, i loved some of the music and yeah, the show need a LOT of work, but that's what the fringe is for. to put up a show, and figure out the kinks. i mean, it's not like they get a lot of time to put it together.
i would still reccommend seeing it, just don'tgo expecting perfection. maybe it will go to broadway and they will cast someone REALLY funny as muffin... like annaleigh ashford!!!

Actually, I appreciate Act4ever's honest review over some of the it-can-do-no-wrong voices all over this site.

dramarama2 - why should he be forced to list any positives if none stuck in his memory after watching? Like all reviews, you take it with a grain of salt, but it's a breath of fresh air to hear someone who didn't instantly "OMG LOVE IT". And at least he's seen the show...

I saw it last night and somewhat agree and disagree. The boy (Morgan Karr) did a great job. He got his part and his voice sounded great with the material. I thought that as a whole the second half of the show was much smoother than the first, although I feel that none of the conflicts were resolved at the end, which was very disappointing. I think Bailey did a fine job with her last number, but was weak for the other numbers in the singing department. Her acting was fine, but her singing didnt seem up to task. I also thought the woman who played the teacher did a great job. In the beginning it was sometimes hard to hear the singers over the very loud band (and I was in the front row orchestra). Some of the actor's diction was not very good and it was hard to hear what they were saying. I did enjoy the dancing (which someone here referred to as overchoreography). I think it kept the piece moving forward. I think they need to develop the third character more who is up for the election. Overall I think it could end up off-broadway, it does have a nice heart behind it. Some of the songs are very good. I like many of the ballad's explaining the characters. I liked the song between the nerd and the best friend very much. Many songs should be cut. The book in the first act needs to be tighter. Overall it was an enjoyable evening because the show's heart shines through. In someways I kept thinking of Spelling Bee while watching this show.

I saw it as well, and surprise surprise, I didn't really like it. That said, I think it was tremendous potential to be a good show, but as it stands now it's just BLAND as all get-out. Sure, there's heart there, and they're talent for days, but none of it is being used. The story is paper thin, and boring. The conflict is typical and the songs aren't anything rememberable. They all started with pretty melodies, but then they sort of turned into some monotonous mess and it left your ear as quickly as it entered. All of the leads were serviceable, but I didn't think Karr was anything special. He wasn't all that funny or charming, and the thought of him as a "straight man" since he does have a relationship with a female character in the show, was just ridiculous. His voice was fine, but I was in the first row and I could barely make out most of his lyrics. I thought the stand-out was the girl playing the "best friend cheerleader" to Hanks' character. She had the comedy down and the stage presence to match. Also, Goodwin was of course a star. She was hilarious, and if the show had more of her and the other girl's style of comedy, it would have been brilliant.

The directing was horrible, and just bland. The pacing was slow (but that could be do technical difficulties or the low rehearsal time?) and the choreography was kind of pointless. I mean, did the song about wanting to be the villian's friend or whatever really need four male backup dancers who didn't really do anything? Also, what's the point of Beard's character? I mean, he's in the show for like two minutes, and his character just seems a little "perfect" to work. He just happens to be coming to the airport to see the view of the city? What? I don't know, I'm sure I'm looking too much into it, but the whole show just seemed so slight and bland. I always though "Election" (the book and movie) would make a great musical, so I was excited for this, but the show didn't have any real drama to it. You could have guessed how it would turn out. But whatevers. It was worth my $15.

I find it hilarious that you take issue with what I said but none with RentBoy's illusions to Karr's sexual preference (and similar views on his work in the show.)

You're on a message board. Do you really expect people not to express critical opinions? If you don't like both sides of the spectrum, you can leave.

For someone who's sensitive to negativity, you sure have selective perception.

When shilling in the future, you may want to contribute to other discussions before posting a rave review on the day you join the site. It would make your inherent bias and clear purpose for posting a little less obvious.
