Does anyone have a song that they secretly love from a musical that is the corniest, most poorly written, overrated piece of crap ever put on a stage?

(well, maybe not THAT exaggerated... :) )

Admit it. You know you want to... :)

Yes,

I love Legally Blonde.

....and I bake re: Guilty Pleasures of Musical Theatre?>

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

HAHAHA

Mine isn't THAT bad...

I still get chills every time I watch/hear "Defying Gravity" even if Idina Menzel is singing it. Really typical, I know.

The Wizard and I

Defying Gravity/Get Out and Stay Out (They may have subtle differences, but they're the same freaking song, people.)

Let's Hear It For the Boy (Footloose "OBC")

Omigod You Guys from Legally Blonde, Popular from Wicked, and pretty much those two shows as a whole.

Beyond My Wildest Dreams and She's in Love from The Little Mermaid. The score is the only thing I like about that show actually.

legally_popular, I don't think your love of Wicked or Legally Blonde is something you aren't willing to admit.

Most of Wicked (excluding Something Bad... could never really get into that one). It's fluffy and shiny... and I can't get enough of it :P

Legally Blonde.

Yes it is.

I have a few Wicked guilty pleasures but most of the music I can't stand. I also like the Spring Awakening music.

Legally Blonde always puts me in a good mood.

"Not That Kind of Thing" from The Wedding Singer is a definite guilty pleasure, as is "Nobody's Side" from Chess.

And I have to agree with you all with the Wicked stuff. I don't listen to it a lot, but whenever I hear "Defying Gravity" I get chills!

Chip On My Shoulder from Legally Blonde and Written in the Stars from Aida. Guilty is charged!

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Top to bottom, I don't skip a song, it's ALWAYS on my ipod.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

Scott68 I deff. agree

I dont see any diffrence between get out and stay out and defying gravity.

Well I like
"I want the good times back" from the little mermaid. its tune and beat are nothing like the reast of the songs in the show but I LOVE it.

For good from wicked
I know its not a showstopper song but it means alot to me ( long story)

bitch/sl*t/liar/who*e from Toxic avenger.
Its a good song but seeing it live is just 100000000000% times better and funnier
