Oh no, I'm sure you're right. They know they aren't an awards darling musical and they aren't going to appeal to the NYC elite theater crowd. So I think they just want to be open and attract the tourists.

Yeah I was going to say they probably wanted to catch the summer tourist crowd.  Obviously awards are nice, but if they can really build word of mouth during the summer then that can actually be better for them in the long run.  Also if they do decently well with the summer crowd, it could help them build up an advance to get through the fall/winter.  fwiw I do kind of like that there are more shows opening earlier this year, it gives a little more variety for those of us that are here year round instead of waiting for the spring when there's a new show opening every week

I saw a bunch of young women (prob mid to late 20s) getting pizza after the show. They were all wearing Britney tees and had Playbills in their hand. Their were about 10 of them. 
 

I asked them how the show was. It was a collective “meh.” There were some polite “it was fun I guess.” Overall, they told me not to bother. 
 

This would seem to be a core demographic and they weren’t  excited about the show. This does not bode well.

I saw the show last night and liked it a lot and had a blast! It was funny, clever and surprisingly a good time! I’m not a fan of juke box musicals but the story was cleverly done and really worked well with the music (which in my opinion was 2nd to the story).

the theatre was packed, there were multiple standing ovations and everyone seemed to be having a great time!
