I hope they put their energies behind a live-action AIDA film instead.

B&B has been done on film the best it will ever be done already. If neccessary, animate the three new songs written for the stage version, edit them in and release a BROADWAY EDITION of the beloved, Oscar-nominated classic film to cash-in. Or film the live stage show with the original sets/costumes.

A live action B&B will be ridiculous no matter what as animation is the best mode of telling that particular story. Remember, PASSION is in many ways the same story (and the better musical that season according to the Tonys) and that comes off as ridiculous even with human characters. It's a tough story to swallow if you really consider it. Whatever.

If I'm gonna get a Disney movie musical, I'd much prefer AIDA and then I can let my memories of B&B remain with the gorgeous film and not the dull and listless stage show version(which, I realize, was quite electric when originally begun, but which got very bad very quickly when the show moved theatres which is when I had the displeasure of seeing it).

For better or worse, many remakes replace the originals to this generation, dismissing the property based solely upon the new version and completely disregarding the usually antiquated but far superior original, so the damage done far exceeds the argument of "just don't watch it" as far as remakes are concerned. I just don't see a live action B&B being anything but cartoonish and foolish.

Anne Hathaway as Belle would be divine!

If necessary, animate the three new songs written for the stage version,

And let's not forget HUMAN AGAIN, written for the film, but dropped, given new life in the show.

Agreed, the animated version was the first cartoon nominated for a best picture oscar, why make a live action version,if anything film it ala peter pan w/cathy rigby, oklahoma w/hugh jackman, and sitpwg and itw w/bernadette peters

They already animated "Human Again" for the anniversary DVD. It's very cute.

And, no, please don't do this. You can't top the animated movie, and I do not want to see the Beast and enchanted servants in CGI.

I agree that Aida would be a better project.

ok not to burst afew bubbles, but would this REALLY work?
like it would be cool and all, but having a bunch of people walking around as teapots, and candlesticks ON SCREEN, wouldn't be all to appealing for mainstreem audiences

Onstage, it looks beautiful, but in a movie, I don't know

I say they should just mount a really great seasonal production in New York and film it (like Legally Blonde) for The Disney Channel and stick it on dvd.

I agree. They should bring together an alumni cast and put up a gargantuan set in a sound studio and film it like Webber did with his shows -- only it's Disney so with more money. I'm not looking forward to a CGI Lumiere.

Anne Hathaway doesn't have a good voice. Also she isn't pretty enough! She looks kinda like a boy with those sagging, droopy eyelids, tranny eyebrows, large nose and out of proportion features.

I dont understand the hype of Anne Hathaway as a singer. She sang like two notes at the Oscars and it wasn't even that good. Since when is she a singer? She is pretty and a good actress but not a singer people. Everyone thinks that now and I just dont get it.

She's sung in other things, such as Ella Enchanted, and at Broadway Under the Stars. I just don't think she's that great.

She sang the songs on the demo for THE WOMAN IN WHITE for ALW.

He accompanied her on piano here and there when she premiered the material as well as on the promo demo itself.

I think she would be a wonderful Christine in LOVE NEVER DIES at some point and ALW would be wise to consider her.

She also received quite a bit of praise from the NY Times for Carnival when it was part of Encores a few years back.

I know Michael Eisner always wanted a live action film of Beauty. He wanted to film it all on location in France, but shown on ABC, like "Cinderella," "Annie", and "The Music Man". He was such a big supporter of Beauty and the Beast (film), Disney on Broadway and musical theatre in general.

I also remember in an Italian news article, Alan Menken, said that a live action Beauty was on he list of current projects.

I think Aida would be awesome on screen, but only done right. None of this, let's find all famous pop stars and try to get them to act. (*I'm sorry, but could someone other than Beyonce play Aida? I have a feeling she would get it. To me, she is like Deena Jones from Dreamgirls. *That's my opinon, and I dont mean for it to be attacked. I am just using it to so what should be done.)

A few years back, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera were all said to be in talks to do a film version of Aida.

For Beauty, I think it should be done the way Michael Eisner wanted

If Disney was really smart, they'd do BEAUTY AND THE BEAST as a live television special like THE SOUND OF MUSIC last year and PETER PAN this year. It would be the best way to get the stage show to work in a live action filmed medium and they could certainly give NBC a run for their money.

It doesn't say that it's going to be the musical. If it is, why? There's really no point in doing this. It makes me mad that Disney is running out of ideas, so now they're remaking all of the Disney movies.
