Yeah, I am not going to lie about people from the UK vs. us Americans. I know not everyone is like this, but there are too many that are. Anyway, I have to say some of us as Americans are very rude and stupid when it comes to celebrities or any sort of media. For some reason, regardless of the situation, people feel it is okay to bother a celebrity for an autograph or picture. I mean, at a place like the stage door, that is appropriate, but definitely not rude behavior or trying to be greedy. Now, over in the UK, I've been told that they are a little more polite. Like they ask if something is okay, and they are also not as greedy about things. Like, I walked on a WGA picket line a couple of times, and there were some pretty famous writers or actors at these, but I was only walking for the future of the business, since it is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I did not even talk to anyone I was a fan of because it was not an appropriate time to be acting like a fan. Anyway, some guy from the UK actually politely asked me if he could take my picture in front of the Time Warner building holding my picket sign. I don't remember if he was just a tourist, or from some media group, but I know if that was American media, they would just be snapping away and bothering people, which did happen.

I don't expect them to sign anything when I stage door. When I ask them if they would please sign something and they do I make sure I thank them, because they don't have to stop and sign stuff at all.

Yeah, exactly. I'll admit, I sort of stood with my playbill out at Spamalot, and didn't ask them to sign, but they were sort of going down the line for everyone. I guess maybe because it wasn't too crazy since Clay didn't come out and people left. But I definitely said thank you.

I know I've said this before but if you think stage doors are bad go to the players' parking lot of a MLB team. "Here, sign my ball" *throws ball at the player*.
I stage doored for the first time this year and I was bowled over by how polite everyone was. But I do know that big names bring out the worst in people.

Good thing I stay as far away from sports as possible.
At least the sports players are getting paid a gazillion bucks a year.
Broadway actors don't have that luxury to even things out.

Sorry to come in so late J, but when I saw it I got Terrence Howard, Giancarlo Esposito, Lou Meyers, and Lisa Arindelle Anderson. The guy at the stage door took our playbills in and got them signed by James Earl Jones cuz he doesn't come out.
I couldn't stay to see if Anika or Phylicia came out cuz I had to run to Penn Station to catch the train (made it in less than ten minutes... but worth it for the pic with Terrence).
So yeah, hope it all works out for you to see it. I thought it was a great production!
JayS: My memory may be a little fuzzy, but when I saw this in college, 1975, I think, we were sitting on stage. I think it was one of the first times this was done. I actually have no desire to see this version, since Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins have me "spoiled." Well I say this now, but I'll probably change my mind...I always thought it was quite a nutty, Freudian play!
lakezurich - forget the pot(t)heads. It really is a juvenile idea. Not every fan has to be jammed into a catagory. Radcilffe is trying to go beyond Harry Potter and we should allow him the chance. Friends who saw it in London said he was excellent in that difficult role.
I am waiting for a parent who has no knowledge of the play take their 10 to 13 year old daughter and friends to this and be completely shocked....can't wait for that to happen

I went back to the stage door when I saw it London. The crowd wasn't that bad. Then again, it was all tourists. I don't think British people believe in the whole stage door stalking thing. I met him. He's shorter than I am (and I was the shortest of my friends). I didn't even realize who it was. I wanted to meet Richard Griffiths. He's the same age as me, and it makes me sick to think of how rudely he's going to be treated on Broadway. He's a person, and Pottheads are going to practically rip his clothes off when given the chance. That just doesn't seem right to me.
First of all, I don't consider the stage door as "stalking" and second, You are already sick to your stomach that people will be rude. Maybe, maybe not. I have been in the middle of Rentheads when Anthony and Adam were in the show, and they were excited and happy and frenetic, but I wouldnt say rude. Maybe that is what is in store for Daniel.
Hopefully, not too many pottheads will come over here. And Lake, you are totally awesome for coming up with that. I envy your awesomeness.

Wait, so now that we have established the obsessive people will be "pottheads," does that mean it's illegal to be one? LOL! You know, I don't want to get arrested or in trouble for something they did that was stupid. LOL!

You won't. He'll probally do what he did in London. Avoid the paparazi by wearing the same clothes day after day after day.
