Didn't he also mention he doesn't want to return to the role? Maybe if they offered him a lot of dough.....

I saw the character descriptions for the casting calls for Las Vegas. I can't remember exactly what they said, but for the Phantom, they were looking younger than either Warlow or Crawford---still, surprises sometimes happen.

The Phantom: 30s-40s, high baritone or tenor (with a good low range) from low A flat to high A flat, needs a dynamic bravura "star" performance, both frightening and irresistible

Don't think so. (And Warlow was 28 when he started playing the Phantom, for what it's worth -- not sure if that's what you were referring to, though.)

they are going to be doing a Ave Q schedule and double casting the role. I heard from someone who was in final callbacks for Carlotta and was told double casting would occur.

And I have a question- As for the only doing 6 shows a week thing and being able to perform healthfully stuff- I heard that the E that Christine sings is actually prerecorded and is not live every night, but that Carlotta, who has to sing 2 Es is done live. What's with that? True? anybody know for sure?

Just to chime in on the Dale Kristien issue - she may have eventually assumed 8 shows a week but she did not start out that way. I saw Phantom in LA in August of 89 and saw Mary D'Arcy who was then billed as the Christine alternate doing Thurs PM and Saturday matinees.

Any new casting news?

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

This church bulletin says that Sierra Boggess will be the next Christine.

When they announced this a couple of years ago, I thought it was kinda silly. Why try to re-invent a show that's been around the world multiple times for Vegas. It just seems everyone has seen Phantom, and the interest in this show certainly isn't what it was 20 years ago. Yet, they say there are going to be these amazing special effects, which may draw people in. There better be for the cost of a ticket. I'd go see "O" again instead.

I'm sure because of the vocal demands and heavy performance schedule that they will double cast the show.

As crappy as some of these "cut-down" versions are, they do employ a bunch of actors.

It's already been stated several times that the Phantom, Raoul, and Christine will all be double-cast.

I wonder if they'll ask Nina Negri or Ashley Linton back. There are a few past Cosettes and Cosette understudies I can think of...

Christine is going to be played by Sierra Boggess and Elizabeth Loyacano. Sierra is leaving the Cosette understudy on the Les Mis tour for the role and Liz was in Woman in White. I'm excited to see 2 age appropriate Christines. They won't be paired with their respective Phantoms until they all start rehearsal.

You can hear a little bit of Sierra at this site:

She definitely sounds great and I saw her in Princesses in Seattle where she actually belted an A flat. Nice.

The shiny new logo appears on this page towards the bottom. It also has some links to some interesting articles. I like the exploding chandelier in the logo.

I'm so happy all these broadway shows are being moved to Vegas, since I go to Vegas every year (to visit my grandparents) but most likely won't go to New York for a long time.

I'm actually looking forward to this since I've yet to see POTO. I'll be planning on seeing Hairspray, POTO and perhaps Spamalot when I go out there in December. I just hope none of them go the way of Avenue Q and get cancelled before I have the chance to get out there and see them!

POTO starts previews sometime in June, is playing at the Vinetian and tickets are supposed to cost around $100-$150 or something like that.
