that's INSANE... Sweet Charity moving to the Hilton to accomodate audiences flocking to see Britney Spears?
no matter how you feel about Britney as Charity Hope Valentine, this is an exciting idea... and then Wedding Singer COULD get the Hirschfeld! yay re: anything new with THE WEDDING SINGER?

[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

Odd that the article is not mentioning David Josefsberg, as others have mentioned. Maybe just not final yet?

I do believe he *himself* has said he's doing The Wedding Singer..

*shrug*

I spoke with someone loosely connected with Jujamcyn. She said Wedding Singer will play the Hirschfeld in spring 06. Charity has to close or get out of its way. I guess the Hilton is as good as anywhere else especially with Britney to sell tickets.

I don't think they'd be able to force Charity out unless it goes below it's stop clause (which it may have already).

I believe wedding singer was slated to get the hirschfield but with the new britney developments (which are more than rumors), a nice little fun game of broadway politics will ensue if charity doesn't keep up their end of the deal and leave on the predetermined date.

I **think** Charity had only officaly contacted to rent the theatre through the end of Christina's contract incase they had to close it then if they didnt find a replacement. Meaning that if they booked the theatre after that date they could force Charity out.

Did anyone else catch this in the broadway.com story:

The character of Jimmy, which was played by Jon Lovitz in the film and was expected to be portrayed by Jason Antoon in the stage version, has been cut from the show.

I hadnt read this elsewhere. I guess they are reworking the story since early reports said the character was enlarged and expanded into the story.

I hope they had the smarts to throw out all the music too. It is truly awful. And I WAS looking forward to this show!

Well now Doctor Dolittle is looking for a theater too, not sure what time of the year though.

My guess: It'll close in Seattle.

I wish them well...

...but am I the only person who thinks The Wedding Singer is a mediocre idea for a musical? Not bad, but a big blah?

And if I were going to do a musical with such a flimsy by-the-numbers story, I'd put two big stars in it--great big stars--like this Spears person and say, Ricky Martin.

If you're going to gamble 9-10 mil, why not go for 12-13?

Riedel mentions today in his article about Britney Spears that Sweet Charity would indeed move to the Hilton if the casting happens.

Incidentally, earlier in this thread I mentioned Festen for the Music Box, but I hear now that Drowsy Chaperone is ahead of Festen for that house. So, I imagine that Festen will end up at the Lyceum whenever Souvenir bows out.
