I happened to have loved the New Cast of Mamma Mia!
I also thought the new Sophie was fine, yet I did not see Tina Maddigan, so I didn't have anyone to compare her to. The entire cast seemed first rate. It must have either been a good day for all of them, or they just fed off the energy of a Friday nite crowd...they were good.

Crap sells. Mamma Mia = Crap. Abba = Crap.

Sorry you don't like Abba, but their international success for 30 years seems to prove that they are not the "crap" you believe them to be. Abba broke barriers in layering tracks of music that no other group had done before and their compositions were quite highly technical and sophisticated (musically) even if their lyrics were sentimental and melodramatic.

I assume you don't like Chess either.

personally ... after the performance for CBS on Turkey Day I would run very far AWAY from the theatre. They seemed to have no energy at all.

emmamia- That was a low blow.
Mister Matt - "Chess" is one of my favorite shows!

I think that EmmaMia and Amneris are neglecting to mention that each of them have seen Mamma Mia! over 100 times... Just because there is a new cast doesn't make the show any different. I hope you both loved the show for a reason other than Louise Pitre.

I never saw Louise Pitre. I saw the original London cast and both US tours in Chicago (Dee Hoty and someone else I can't remember).

Phantom2 - I also love Chess. I think it is one of the best scores in musical theatre. Too bad it never had a successful production on Broadway or London. I saw a brilliant production by Theatre Under the Stars in Houston years ago. It retained most of the Broadway score with hints of the original score plus a new song I can't remember the title of that isn't on ANY of the recordings. Something between Molokov and the American sleazoid press agent (We Work Together or something like that).

Also love Kristina Fran Duvemala, though I can't understand 99% of the score. Last I heard, it was to open in London next year, but that was a while ago. Anyone else heard any news on Kristina?

October 18th? Was the last day I saw MM... and only time I had seen the show since early spring..Im far too busy working and schooling to worry about Louise Pitre. The show was once a ton of fun and maybe it still is for others but , I don't have a desire currently to stand in the freezing cold for SRO to see the show. Simple as that. In all honesty, regardless if you love it, like it, or even hate it...if it's popular with the general public on a worlwide scale...then those are the facts folks.

I saw the OBC and the tour a few years ago. It IS total fluff and silly stuff, but it's the best time I've ever seen an audience have in years. That, imo, is why it's getting the recognition and support!

Sure, there's tons of shows I like much better. ABBA's musical success in a silly plot built around songs is obviously a winnig combination. Different tastes doesn't mean lack of talent or creativity. The ultimate proof is at the box office, isn't it...or am I missing something about success?

okay i think i like the show for more than louise. She was a reason why I loved the show in the beginning but I found other reasons why I enjoy it ... why i feel like i have to defend myself is questionable but i will anyways.
I like the show for the energy and happiness it puts into me each time I see it. Here in vegas i feel like the cast puts in 100% every night so i leave the theatre in a great energetic mood (even at 1am) so when i saw a "dead" performance i was disapointed because the energy is what makes the show so great in my opinion. is it really that hard to smile and look like your having a good time?? i know if i was paid atleast 1300 a week i would be able to put on a smile esp for a national performance.

thats my 2 cents

I like the show because it has such an endearing story. The people are not perfect, just look at the dads and the mom's friends. Mamma Mia! is REAL DEAL. They are people you would meet in everyday life. It proves that if you have a dream and a kind heart, you are more than 1/2 way there. They don't make many girls like Tina Maddigan and I miss her greatly. Truly a shining star.

Mister Matt- What's your favorite song from Chess? Mine is "Heaven Help My Heart." Just breathtaking! May I add, we both have very good taste and when are we going to London?

Phantom2 - I think Someone Else's Story has to be my favorite. It gives me chills every time. Closely followed by Nobody's Side (amazingly performed in Houston) and Florence Quits. But then again, Chess is one of the few shows where I love every song in the show.

Mister Matt- I just got back from "Miracle on 47th Street." Julia Murney (Chess) was excellent, along with Devon May, Laura Benanti, Stephanie Block and the angel himself, Max von Essen.

broadwayguy2- You'll be happy to know that Adam Fleming and company were sitting right behind me. I put in a good word for you dude.

D.) I sooooo got busted by him for staring at him the whole show.. Yes, I was embarrassed, but not the least bit ashamed.. until I saw Hairspray and was too scared to approach him after the Mia incident. Updated On: 12/16/03 at 01:12 AM
