I just wanted to hear what everyone thinks about Steel Pier! I was a huge fan of it in 97' without ever seeing it! Now, I just watched it at Lincoln Center...and now I even love it more!!! I was the retard clapping and crying in front of the screen in the viewing room!!! I do see why people did not like it and it was not a success, but come on, Karen during "Running in Place" is breathtaking. Susan's hand in the show was wonderful. And Kristen cracked me up!!! So what do you think???

I escorted a couple dozen high school theatre students to Steel Pier a week or so before the Tony Awards that year. We ALL thought Steel Pier was superior to Titanic and were very disappointed to hear about it closing shortly after garnering zero awards from its 11 nominations.

The weird thing, however, is this: Standing in line for dinner at a jampacked restaurant after seeing Steel Pier, we talked to someone who claimed to be a friend of Monk's. She told us that the atmosphere backstage was "rancid" because of the antics of a certain blonde who felt she wasn't getting enough attention in her role...

If you're talking about Kristin I must shut my ears. I hate hearing bad things about her lol. I'm ultra-sensitive.
Although I've heard that's true.
BUT NO I CAN'T LISTEN. must-keep-idolization-going.
Wow that sounded obsessive.
Cuz it is lol

lol...stagedoor, you are great.

and Sally (I mean this well, really I do), it is possible to idolize someone's performance, or worship their talents without having to think they are a particularly nice person.

I found Steel Pier to be pretty boring. Debra Monk was good but I have never been a big Karen Ziemba fan.

Alas! Have your seen Ziemba's performances on the "My Favorite Broadway, the Leading Ladies" DVD??? She does "Nowadays" with BeBe Neuwirth and "I Wanna Be a Rockette" with the Rockettes. Both SPECTACULAR!

I adore STEEL PIER, and I wish it had gotten more recognition than it did. TITANIC rightfully won best score, but I still think STEEL PIER should have won best musical, or even THE LIFE. I really really love this show, though and would love to direct it one day.
