EVITA at the ART - Reviews  Sep 19 2023, 09:54:37 AM

Washington Post's Peter Marks is a rave:

Stand back, Washington. ‘Evita’ has never been more thrilling.

"So maybe the time is ripe for “Evita” to get another crack at Broadway. The production in Harman Hall has the arresting bona fides for such a gambit."

Grey House on Broadway, Spring 2023, directed by Joe Mantello  Feb 22 2023, 08:11:00 AM

Regarding diversity --

Millicent Simmonds is deaf. She played the teenage daughter in the Quiet Place movies. It will be interesting to see how they incorporate signing and deafness into the play.

Broadway's Most Entertaining Show About a Serious Social Issue?  Feb 15 2023, 09:18:38 AM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Hair. When I saw the revival, the ending absolutely devastated me. I always think what it would have been like if all of my friends had been drafted, if you never knew who was going to be shipped overseas to fight and maybe die. It's an incredibly entertaining musical about mortality and the ethics of war (and who is sent to fight in those wars).

SUNSET BOULEVARD at the Kennedy Center  Feb 3 2023, 03:28:41 PM

Beetlejuice Musical's Future in Question After Broadway's Coronavirus Shutdown Extends Through June  Apr 9 2020, 10:59:39 AM

If you haven't seen ... confirmation that Beetlejuice won't reopen at the Winter Garden.

(Apologies if this was posted somewhere else! I looked through the posts and didn't see it anywhere.)

Limited View at The Kennedy Center  Jan 31 2020, 01:45:07 PM

You might miss a little but they're not bad at all. Worth it to see this performance -- I saw it last night and it was outstanding.

Hugh Jackman in The Music Man  Jan 8 2020, 04:29:25 PM

Question for the group: I currently have a $99 seat in right mezz row F (seat 28) that I bought the day the tickets went on sale.

There's now a right mezz row A seat 30 available for the same price. I'm thinking of asking if I can switch since I know Telecharge has done that for folks before. The pics online seem like far sides of row A may be obstructed. Am I better off staying where I am now?

A Chorus Line - Signature Theatre  Nov 5 2019, 04:00:00 PM

I saw it on Friday. It was ... fine?

I saw a Chorus Line maybe 10 years ago on TV, so I'll admit to not being super familiar with the specific choreography. I felt this production really lagged in the middle. There seemed to be a lot of shuffling in the seats around me so I think others felt the same. I felt like it didn't hit its stride until Paul's monologue.

The end has everyone tapping out on stage one by one in the shiny gold costumes, then ending with the

Hugh Jackman in The Music Man  Sep 14 2019, 09:40:08 AM
Thanks to the.open seating chart, I was able to snag one of the elusive $109 seats for the added Monday show on Nov. 2. (No show on that Tuesday because of Election Day.) The view might be crap, but since I have to pay for hotel too, it can't be that bad! Fingers crossed!
The Who's Tommy at Kennedy Center  Apr 26 2019, 02:09:30 PM

The Washington Post's review is up: Peter Marks calls it the best production in the two years of the Broadway Center Stage series.

Marlothom said: "I agree with the few tepid reviews so far. I bought tickets to this because it was so thrilling to see Jessie Mueller in The Music Man, that I wanted to see Christian and Mandy in a new production up close and personal (and I was in the 2nd row)but I didn't realize their parts were "not as flashy". It was fine."

Yep, I wasn't planning on going until they announced Christian Borle's casting. I've always wanted to see him. Agr

Marlothom said: "Seeing it tonight - my first time seeing Tommy. Will report back."

Yep, was my first time too, though I generally knew the story. Was only familiar with one song ("Pinball Wizard".

The Who's Tommy at Kennedy Center  Apr 25 2019, 03:44:28 PM

FYI, the Kennedy Center's production of The Who's Tommy started last night, runs through Monday. This is the latest in the Broadway Center Stage series, the semi-staged Broadway series.

This run stars Casey Cott as Tommy, Christian Borle and Mandy Gonzalez as Captain Walker and Mrs. Walker, Manu Narayan as Uncle Ernie, Kimberly Nichole as The Gypsy, and&nb

Guess Signature Theater's next season (Virgina)  Mar 29 2019, 12:30:59 PM

I'll have to see Hair since it's one of my very favorite musicals. Only saw one show at Signature, Dreamgirls, which was so bad I've never gone to another show there. Do have friends that really enjoy them though so maybe I'll give them another chance.

BEN PLATT Music Tour  Feb 13 2019, 09:29:11 AM

He's playing at The Anthem in DC. Capacity can vary from 2,500 (seated) to 6,000 (standing). Sometimes in between if there's a mix of seating/standing room.

I'm surprised he didn't book the Kennedy Center, which is where basically all the Broadway touring singers go. Leslie Odom did the Eisenhower Theater, which seats 1,161 (Broadway style house). I have tickets in the spring for Patina Miller, who's playing in the Terrace Theater (capacity 475). Miller, M

MUSIC MAN at KC Performance Thread  Feb 12 2019, 09:59:56 AM

Justice Sonya Sotomayor was at Monday night's show. She's a supporter of theater in DC and it's always nice to see officials out in the community.

Skylar Astin, Betsy Wolfe, Michael Urie, and More to Lead Kennedy Center's HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING  Jun 8 2018, 12:38:52 PM

Ok, you were right ...
