Good Bye Lenin! Screenwriter Christoph Silber To Appear At Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center 11/9

By:

Set in Germany in 1990 after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Good Bye Lenin! tells the story of a young man who, in order to protect his fragile mother from a fatal shock after a long coma, must keep her from learning that her beloved nation of East Germany as she knew it has disappeared. Golden Globe-nominated Good Bye Lenin!, released in 2003, was chosen as the Best Foreign Language Film by the London Film Critics Circle, and won seven honors at the German Film Awards.

Christoph Silber, a writer of Good Bye Lenin!, is widely recognized as one of Germany's leading screenwriters. Beginning his screenwriting career in the mid 1990s, he contributed to several German sitcoms. In the late 90s, he began to focus on writing feature films. He collaborated on the screenplays of other award-winning films such as North Face and Arranged.

Teamed with Berlin associate Thorsten Wettcke, Silber wrote critically acclaimed episodes for Germany's legendary feature-length crime series Tatort. In 2008 the duo's new concept for the Hamburg Tatort was called "a triumph for German quality television" by Der Spiegel. In 2009 they received the Grimme Award, the highest honor in German television. Currently, he resides in Huntsville with his family.

Join us for a screening of Good Bye Lenin! with Christoph Silber, on November 9: the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
