Photo Flash: Vagabond Players Present SPEED-THE-PLOW

By:

The Vagabond Players will continue its 94th consecutive season with * Speed-the-Plow* by David Mamet, directed by Steve Goldklang. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm from April 16, 2010 to May 16, 2010 at The Vagabond Theatre, 806 South Broadway in Fells Point.

Tickets are $15, with discounts available for seniors and students. Please call 410-563-9135, email reserve@vagabondplayers.org, or go online to vagabondplayers.org with a credit card for reservations.

Hilarious and chilling---David Mamet's comedy is a raw, funny and ruthless behind-the-scenes dissection of Hollywood --- how deals are cut and how movies get made. A phenomenal success in New York, *Speed-the-Plow* garnered three Tony Award nominations including Best Play.

Mamet has a long history with Hollywood, both as a film writer and director. Nobody knows more about Hollywood's dirty little secrets than Mamet---he even recently wrote a book that carefully dissects West Coast duplicity (*Bambi vs. Godzilla: On the Nature, Purpose, and Practice of the Movie Business). Speed-the-Plow*, which was first produced on Broadway in 1988 and starred
Joe Mantegna, Ron Silver and a very young actress named Madonna, is a simply delicious poison pen knife-in-the-back aimed at every Gucci-clad hotshot producer Mamet ever encountered. It also happens to be a very funny, powerful, and thoroughly engrossing piece of theatre that provides audiences with a first hand look at Mamet's razor-sharp wit and intelligence.

*Speed-the-Plow* contains strong language and is therefore not recommended for children.
