By:

Theatre Hopkins will open its final production of the season, the Maryland premiere of the musical comedy, The Glorious Ones on Friday, June 11, at the Swirnow Theater in the Mattin Center on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. The score and book are by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who received the Tony Award for their musical Ragtime. The production is directed and choreographed by Todd Pearthree.

Adapted from a novel by Francine Prose, the central character, Flaminio Scalo, played by Edward J. Peters, is based on a real-life Venetian actor whose small commedia dell'arte troupe toured the village squares of Europe during Italy's Renaissance. In 2008, "The Glorious Ones" received nominations as best musical from Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle.

Also included in the cast are Shannon Wollman, Lauren Spencer-Harris, Amy Pierson, Tom Burns, Chris Jehnert and Darren McDonnell. With musical direction by R. Christopher Rose, The Glorious Ones will run four weekends through Sunday, July 4.

Curtain time for Friday and Saturday is 8pm; Sunday matinees at 2pm. Tickets are $20 with $5 student rush tickets available at curtain for all performance based on availability. For reservations call (410) 516-7159, or by e-mail to thehop@jhu.edu. More information at http://www.jhu.edu/theatre/season/.
