Photo Flash: MET's Fun Company Presents YOUNG OLYMPIANS

By:

It's mythology mayhem at the Maryland Ensemble Theater. MET's family theater, The Fun Company, presents an all original World Premiere musical for children about Greek mythology. The Young Olympians and the Most Amazingly Awesome Adventure Ever is a fun filled experience for kids of all ages. When the heroes of today are out of commission it is up to the heroes of the future to save the day. The Young Olympians tells the story of Perseus, Jason, Hercules, and Andromeda when they are heroes in training at Homer's School of Heroism. When the Gods of Mt. Olympus suddenly develop amnesia it is up to these four young friends to go on an epic quest to save the day and along the way learn what it really means to be a hero.

The Young Olympians was written by company member Sarah Shulman, who has worked on numerous MET productions and made her MET writing debut with the original summer production of Don Q. Shulman used her knowledge of Greek mythology to create a fun and original adventure, that tells the never before heard story of how classic Greek characters became the heroes that we know so well today. Along with being an original story, The Young Olympians also contains entirely original music. The show is full of fun and catchy songs about Greek mythology and being a hero. Shulman tag teamed writing the lyrics to the music with fellow MET company member Thom Huenger. Along, with playing Perseus, Huenger, whose past shows include A Clockwork Orange, also composed all of the music for The Young Olympians.

Once again Fun Company director Julie Herber, works her magic and creates a comic book styled world of fantasy and fact for the heroes to adventure in. The Fun Company seeks to provide high quality, affordable theatre for the whole family that is both educational and entertaining. The Fun Company offers a yearly Family Theatre Series, an In School Productions outreach program and Fun Camp. Although, designed for children The Young Olympians and the Most Amazingly Awesome Adventure Ever is fun for all ages, and grown-up patrons of MET's main stage will have just as much fun as their kids.

For over a decade, Maryland Ensemble Theatre has been producing thought-provoking theatre, fun family entertainment, challenging classes and the side-splitting Comedy Pigs. The MET is an artistic leader in the region and at the forefront of the creation of Frederick's Theater District.

Young Olympians runs from March 31st to April 22 on the MET stage. Tickets are $12, and may be purchased by phone at (301) 694-4744, or online at marylandensemble.org, or in person at the MET box office. Group rates and birthday packages are also available.
