Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) closes its 2015/16 MainStage season with Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Tracy Letts' urban comedy-drama Superior Donuts-running May 27th to June 19th at the MainStage MET Theatre on 31 West Patrick Street in Frederick, MD.

The mean streets of Chicago show us their brighter side when Arthur, a world-weary draft evader and disillusioned donut shop proprietor, hires Franco, a streetwise would-be novelist. But their unlikely bond of one-part snark and three-parts hope is put to a violent test when Franco's past catches up to him.

Superior Donuts is the story of a man who at one time had the courage of his convictions. Along comes a young man full of hope, full of promise, who offers him a chance to fight for something again. It's a story full of catharsis and tension and humor and pathos...and it's a story of how race continues to inform our decisions and actions.

MET's Associate Artistic Director, Gené Fouché, is directing this production. Her vision brings authenticity onstage while creating (with the help of Ira Domser set designer and Cody Gilliam costume designer) discreet, specific cultural landscapes. Fouché is known for coaxing nuanced, dynamic, and sensitive performances out of her actors while offering powerful, provocative, yet always engaging theatrical entertainment. She last directed for MET in Completed Hollywood (abridged). Superior Donuts also features MET Artistic Director Tad Janes-who brings his artistic talents, along with experience living and working in Chicago, to the role. The cast also includes that talents of: Najee Banks, Julie Herber, Giovanni Kavota, Matt Lee, Tom Majaroy,Reiner Prochaska, Tim Seltzer, and Laura Stark
