Everyman Theatre Announces Fall Master Class Series

By:

Everyman Theatre has announced a new series of Master Classes for the fall called "The Actor's Body."  Designed for aspiring and professional actors, the series of three classes focuses on different movement techniques for the stage.  The classes will take place on Monday evenings (6 PM to 9 PM) from September 10th through September 24th.  Classes may be purchased individually or as the complete series.

On September 10th, a Master Class on the Viewpoints technique will be taught by Shawn Fagan.  Viewpoints was made famous by Anne Bogart and the Siti Company; the technique allows actors to identify, utilize, and maximize their relationship to their physical environment by focusing on elements such as time, space, and trajectory.  Mr. Fagan is a member of SITI's acting and teaching company.  His New York credits include playing James Whelan in the US premiere of Wife of James WhelanJohn Rutherford in Rutherford & Son (Mint Theater Company), Philinte in The Misanthrope (Pearl Theatre Company, Lortel nomination for Best Revival), among others.  Regionally he has performed at such theatres as Denver Center Theatre Company, Arena Stage, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Company, Utah Shakespearean Festival, and DC's Taffety Punk.

European Clown and Movement Technique will be the topic for the master class on September 17th.  Led by Sabrina Mandell, students will be introduced to techniques from the Lecoq and Gaulier schools of clowning and movement in this three hour intensive.  Ms. Mandell is the artistic director of Happenstance Theatre, which is a professional theatre committed to devising and producing original, performer-created visual and poetic theatre.

Finally, on September 24th Scott Rink will teach a class about Physical Composition.  Actors will immerse themselves into composition and choreography for the stage, and discuss what it means to have pure storytelling impulses.  Mr. Rink is the artistic director of danceRink in New York City.  His many off-Broadway choreography credits include Queen of the Mist, Hello Again, and Crossing Brooklyn (all with Transport Group).  His commissioned works include dances for Ailey II, ABT II, Oakland Ballet and Minnesota Dance Theatre.  His assistant choreography credits include The King and I on Broadway.

The cost for each individual class in the series is $70; the cost for the entire series is $180.  To register for classes, visit www.everymantheatre.org/education or call the Education Department at 443-524-0154.  The Actor's Body Series is designed for college-level students or higher.
