Academic Theatre at CCBC Catonsville Presents SPRING AWAKENING, 3/16-20
CCBC Catonsville Academic Theatre presents Spring Awakening 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17; 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18; 10 a.m. Monday, March 19 and 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 20 in the Q Building Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. Ticket prices are $8 for general admission and $5 for students, faculty, staff and CCBC alumni. Tickets are available in advance from the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-2787 (ARTS) or at the door. Exploring the lives of young students in a 19th century German town, Spring Awakening takes an unflinching look at the practices and tragic effects of sexual repression. Teenagers, prevented by their elders from understanding the changes they are undergoing, express their coming-of-age anxiety and adolescent rebellion through their relationships with each other, and through thrilling rock-style performances in contemporary fashion. Spring Awakening, an eight-time Tony Award-winning musical by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, is based on Frank Wedekind’s 19th century play.
The 11 featured players are: Sinead Fahey (Wendla), Emily Boling (Thea), Christopher Zargarbashi (Moritz), Hunter Crain (Georg) and Travis Harper (Otto) of Baltimore, Stephanie Mickens (Martha) of Windsor Mill, Megan Morfe (Anna) of Parkville,Naomi Steven (Ilsa) of Catonsville, James Baxter (Melchior) of Ellicott City, Campbell Kistner (Ernst) of Dundalk and Yasha Langer (Hanschen) of Owings Mills. Other cast members include: Brian Jacobs, Jay Camp and Emma Miller of Baltimore, Meli Hartsoe of Stewartstown, PA, Kalisha Brooks of Randallstown, Logan Burke of Pasadena, Keiron Green of Halethorpe, Renata Hammond of Gwynn Oak and Nicki Seibert of Lutherville-Timonium.
This play continues CCBC’s celebration of Year of the Performing Arts and features CCBC alumnus Robert W. Oppel (’03) as the director. Professor William Watson, chairman of Performing Arts and Humanities at CCBC, is the musical director and choreography is by CCBC Dance Coordinator Tommy Parlon. The production features a set by Maurice “Moe” Conn and costumes by A.T. Jones, coordinated by CCBC costumer James J. Fasching.
