Dorset Theatre Festival opens its 40th Anniversary Season with the World Premiere of Theresa Rebeck's Downstairs, starring brother and sister Tim Daly and Tyne Daly, who will be appearing together for the first time on the stage. Downstairs, under the direction of Resident Director Adrienne Campbell-Holt, runs for 16 performances between June 22 - July 8, 2017. All performances take place at the Dorset Playhouse, 104 Cheney Road, Dorset.

#EduHam is a series of HAMILTON Wednesday matinees made available to New York City schools with a high concentration of students from low-income families for the ticket price of only $10. This educational partnership, made possible through a $1.46 million grant by The Rockefeller Foundation, is not only providing 20,000 NYC public school students with the opportunity to see HAMILTON on Broadway, but provides educational material by Gilder Lehrman to incorporate material from the musical into the American History curriculum.

Roundabout Theatre Company presents the Broadway premiere of Marvin's Room, by Scott McPherson, directed by Obie Award-winning director, Anne Kauffman (Detroit) making her Broadway debut. Janeane Garofalo will star as 'Lee' in her Broadway debut; Lili Taylor will star as 'Bessie' and Celia Weston will star as 'Ruth.'

Building The Wall, the new play by Pulitzer and Tony winner Robert Schenkkan (All The Way), will make its New York premiere beginning performances on Friday, May 12th at 8:00 pm and opening on Sunday, May 21st at 7:30 pm at New World Stages (340 West 50th St.) for a strictly limited engagement through July 9, 2017.

Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winner Wendy Wasserstein's prescient play AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER returned to New York lastnight at 7pm for a one night-only, sold-out benefit reading at the Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street) directed by Emmy, Golden Globe, and Academy Award winner Christine Lahti.

The Actors Fund, the national human services organization that helps everyone in performing arts and entertainment in times of need, crisis or transition, just held its Annual Gala last night, May 8, 2017. The evening celebrated Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Danny DeVito, two-time Academy Award winner Sally Field, outstanding corporate leader Jo Ann Jenkins, CEO of AARP and 21-time Tony Award-winning theatrical director and producer Harold Prince. Mr. DeVito, Ms. Field and Ms. Jenkins were awarded The Actors Fund's Medal of Honor. Mr. Prince received The Actors Fund's Lifetime Achievement Award.

After a sold-out engagement last April, Lea Salonga returns to Feinstein's/54 Below (May 9-22) with a show The New York Times called "one of the year's most satisfying cabaret shows." Salonga smartly weaves together a set list of her favorite standards, go-to pop tunes, and Broadway ballads. This trio of piano, guitar, and voice ensures an intimate experience with a true Broadway icon. Salonga will perform a record-breaking run of 15 performances this spring. The Lortel Awards were distributed in a ceremony at NYU Skirball Center hosted by actor and comedian Taran Killam. This year's event was once again a benefit for The Actors Fund.

Everything's coming up Tonys! Spring has sprung, awards season has begun, and the latter is all that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Jane Krakowski and Christopher Jackson announced the 2017 Tony nominees, celebrating the best of the 2016-17 theatre season (and what a season it's been!). Topping this year's list is Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, which received twelve nominations, closely followed by Hello, Dolly! and Dear Evan Hansen- picking up ten and nine nods respectively. 

All eyes were on Jane Krakowski and Christopher Jackson this morning as they announced the 2017 Tony Award nominations live on CBS and TonyAwards.com. BroadwayWorld was there and brings you a look at the stars below!
