Student Blogger: Silvana Flores

After four and a half years studying non-stop, three diplomas, two years of a pandemic and more than one year being a blogger, I finally graduated college. So here’s my last blog as a student blogger.

I’ve been more into theater these past years, but it was until this one that I've really experienced it and discovered why it’s one of my happy places. That’s why I put into words what I wanted to say.

As students, sometimes we feel like we have lots of things to do and writing them on our phones it’s not always the best option. So this time I’ll share with you why I still love agendas.

Having a new perspective of a ceremony like this was something I’ll never forget, working with great people and being part of a team “behind the scenes” made me realize why I love theater so much.

Recently, I’ve been involved more in the theater world and with that I’ve learned something new each day I spend in that magical place.

For the last few years, I’ve been learning a lot about theater in general and falling in love with plays and musicals that I didn’t know existed. And it was until this summer, that I decided to join the production company at my campus; otherwise I would regret wasting that time on my last year.

Maybe the musicals in this list aren’t exactly summer musicals, but what I love about them is that if I’m listening to them, I could feel like the main character during these hot days and I think that’s all we need sometimes.

'I really saw myself in Bobby, because he’s a dreamer, but also is scared to take that step, and for me it’s theater, cinema and every story I read, see or every experience that I have in my life that inspires me to take action and makes me keep going.'

I could talk for hours and hours about why I think this as a play or a musical should be something that every teenager should watch, listen or read, because nowadays art can save lives.

If you are a fan of musicals, if you dream about seeing your name in the marquee on a Broadway show, if you have a kid that wants to be an artist or if you think you have no chance to be a star (in any way) on the theater or entertainment world, you need to watch Better Nate Than Ever.

It’s been not a long time since I became a theater fan, even though I’ve learnt many things with my experience as part of the audience and with my perspective as a student of a career that involves art, I’ve got to reflect about theater in my city: Mexico City.

This year will not be easy, but I’m sure it will be great. If you’re a senior, congratulations, we’re almost done, but we still have ten months left, and if you’re not, you’re lucky, write your own story and enjoy every minute.

I loved The Prom and if I could, I would watch it again and again and again, because to bring this great story to life, they needed an exceptional company and they found it. Every time they were on stage, they gave everything and brought this magic that we can only see in the theater. I'm glad and proud that here in Mexico City, we have plays and musicals with this quality, made with effort, passion and love.

I've been waiting for this movie since last year and last weekend I went to the movies and it was the best way to start the end of this year. West Side Story is a musical that we've seen everywhere through the years and it's a classic that has a place in our hearts, so as a fan of musicals, watching the remake directed by Steven Spielberg was a great experience from when I saw the first teaser months ago, to the end of the movie with all the emotions that it made me feel.

Since the announcement in 2018, I've been waiting to see the tick, tick... BOOM! movie adaptation, last weekend I finally watched it and let me tell you that I absolutely loved it. Even though I was not sure if this musical was going to be amazing as a movie, I was very excited but actually had no expectations, the things I knew were that it was going to be directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and that the main character would be played by Andrew Garfield, but the way it surprised me, made it one of my favorite movies of the year.

Autumn is finally here and what I love the most about this season, besides Halloween, is going on walks or driving alone on my way home and listening to songs that made me feel like the main character of a fall movie. I'm sharing with you my 2021 Autumn playlist that has songs from Hamilton, spooky tunes and also some of my favorite songs at the moment. Enjoy!

I don't know if you already knew, but Come From Away the musical is now available on Apple Tv, I watched it for the first time and I wanted to write about it because even though I didn’t watch it in a theatre on Broadway , it was worth every minute.

It’s 2021 and we already have a lot of Cinderella remakes that have tried to give a modern twist, show another perspective or vision of this classic but someone decided that the world needed another Cinderella movie that could work as a Jukebox musical. I had no expectations for this movie, but I ended up enjoying it. It made me laugh, sing and had a good time with a story that even though it had been told hundreds of times, the vision of Kay Cannon made it fresh and perfect for a movie night with your family, your little cousins or your friends.

The show could've been a disaster if they didn't do two things right: choose the right people and decide that the only point of the story would be to make you laugh, and thank god they made good choices. Since the first time I watched the trailer, I was so excited about the cast, I mean we got Kristin Chenoweth, Dove Cameron, Aaron Tveit, Jane Krakowski, Ariana DeBose, Jaime Camil, Ann Harada and more together! And even though I love everyone, my favorite characters were Melissa (Cecily) and Emma (Ariana).

I was so excited for High School Musical:The Musical: The Series season two, more than I thought I would be, I mean last season really surprised me with the cast, the amazing original songs and the way they made High School Musical work as a TV show, it felt fresh, original and special, but now that season two is over, I have a lot of thoughts. The plot changed a little bit, but we have the same cast and the same style so, that was not a problem, but from my point of view something felt different and at first I thought I was expecting too much because I loved season one, but with every episode my excitement went down.
