My favorite time of the school year is coming up! Audition. Season. Woo! In my program we audition for the winter and spring show together. And no matter how your school’s audition progress goes, most people can agree on one thing. We are all nervous. While we do our best to look and feel confident in the room, that does not shake away the jitters in our brains. I’m here to tell you some of my favorite tips and tricks for calming those little audition nerves!

Academic integrity is about a student’s responsibility and honesty with their school work. Of course there is so much more involved with this term, but the main point is that you should be expected to have “Academic integrity”. As I have mentioned before, on many occasions I have felt my motivation for work fade in and fade out. It’s hard to maintain the passion for school work and the academic integrity of it all, but do not let that all disappear completely!

Stage Fright is a very normal thing to have. Even Barbra Streisand had it! I halted my live performances after I didn't dance anymore (that was another story!). I can’t really tell you what caused my fear, but I will tell you how it affected my life in so many ways. I want to mention that stage fright also never stopped the idea of performing on stage for me, it just stopped me from actually doing it (if that makes sense).

I’ve mentioned it already, but a small burnout from me can happen during the decision of cleaning my room. I’ve watched my chaotic room get worse over the summer and finally I decided to take some action.

It’s always at the beginning of the semester where I have to buy a planner. This has been told to me time and time again that the best way to just know what’s going on in your busy schedule is with a planner. Once I have dates for rehearsals and when I get due dates for classes I immediately write them down. This way I can have an idea of what is a priority and what I’m doing on certain days.

The best events come from the performances that are just at the right time. When sunsets happen. Sunsets can match the mood of a show or even make the mood. If you are ever lucky to see a show outside, having it placed where the sun goes down is perfect.

How do I keep the MT flow going? I practice music I’m working on almost every day, strengthen my knowledge through books, and learning new monologues to have in my back pocket for the upcoming school year and beyond! A good way to multitask is doing any of these tasks while getting a tan outside! It’s nice to take a break from performing, but for myself, who is still quite new to theatre life, I like to keep my brain fresh!
