Every time I see a new show, or listen to a new soundtrack, it automatically is added to a sort of “database” in my brain. In a situation where I’m struggling to interpret emotions, I can search this database and basically “google” it.

What would it sound like?” She says, “and then, I thought, ‘what would happen if Broadway Stars were in shows they would never be in?’”
Maggie Bera, founder of Actor Aesthetic and creator of the viral Tik Tok sensation “Broadway Stars in Shows They Were Definitely Not In”, is no stranger to performing.
“But,” she says hopefully, “with the re-spark of the Black Lives Matter movement, I have been able to find my voice in theatre, as well as socially.” “We still have so much work to do.” she continues. “And there are so many performers, as well as organizations, putting in the work for things to change; to push for equity on and off the stage.”

For this installment, I spoke to Martín Acuña, host of BACKSTAGE TALK podcast (@backstagetalkpod on Instagram), about his story and how he got involved with theatre.
'I always had a hard time explaining why I have such a strong attraction to theatre. My default answer, the one that everyone most enjoys hearing, was: 'because I want to inspire others.' It's true, of course, but it's not The Real Answer. The Real Answer, quite simply is, 'because there's no nonsense - everything is right there, as it is.'
“Sometimes you just need a smile. I can’t fix the situation we’re in. But sometimes you just have to sit in the mess with people, and just be there. And it makes all the difference.”
The folks at Broadway Workshop were gracious enough to invite me back to another “Broadway Day”. This time, it was a little different from sugar, butter, and dancing to a Sara Bareilles lyrical and melodic masterpiece. The bar was already set high from my experience at their WAITRESS Day; I wondered whether my expectations would be met a second time.
“Play for the version of you that you left behind,” she says.
