Arden Theatre Co to Participate in Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices FestivalMay 5, 2010Arden Theatre Company is proud to announce its participation in New Visions/New Voices, a week-long festival to support and stimulate the creation of new plays and musicals for young audiences, hosted by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. At the festival, the Arden will be further developing their commission of The Flea and the Professor, Jordan Harrison's new musical adaptation of the story by Hans Christian Andersen. Following a week of collaborative workshops, The Flea and the Professor will be featured in a series of public readings beginning May 21, 2010.

San Fran Mime Troupe Opens 51st Season with POSIBILIDAD This SummerMay 5, 2010The Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe opens its 51st season with POSIBILIDAD, or Death of the Worker. A small U.S. factory is shutting down. All of the workers are losing their jobs, and to add insult to injury, they have also lost their last two weeks of pay and retirement funds, which were raided over the years to pay stock dividends. They are despondent, but feel there is nothing they can do, so they put in their last shift and raise a glass to their years together. As they leave the Factory for the last time, one of the older Workers gets snagged on a machine. Interpreting this as an act of defiance, The Boss calls security. The situation escalates and before anyone has a chance to think, the Workers have accidentally occupied the Factory!

Someday Productions of Kensington/Fishtown, in partnership with the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative and the United Way of Southeastern PA and the City of Philadelphia, present the culmination of a semester's work with students from Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School at two Public Performances on Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 4:00 & 6:00pm. The performances, entitled 'Of Mythic Proportions' was created from the 9th-12th grade student's personal stories about growing up in Kensington and how violence has become a part of their lives. The students will perform their work at Walking Fish Theatre, 2509 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19125 for the community and the general public. In addition to the performance, there will be a short discussion raised by the topics in the stories, with a chance for the audience to interact with the performers. Following the workshop will be a reception with refreshments. The cost is free.
