Marvin had a rare musical intelligence and imagination. His work seemed to easily bridge the gap between Art and Commerce. His artistry in writing beautiful melodies always moved me, and spoke to me of his classicism and deep feeling nature. This is a great loss for all of us. One consolation is that his music has been made popular around the world, and people in so many different countries will continue to be moved and inspired by his music as we are.

The World Premiere of Kinky Boots, the new musical brings together four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy® Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Music & Lyrics). Directed and choreographed by Tony® Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots will play the Bank of America Theatre (18 West Monroe Street, Chicago, IL) beginning October 2 through November 4, 2012, in advance of a Broadway opening. York has appeared on Broadway as Fantine in Les Miserables; Norma in Victor/Victoria (Drama Desk Award) with Julie Andrews; Marguerite in The Scarlet Pimpernel; Miss Fancy in Sly Fox with Richard Dreyfuss; and Christine Colgate in Dirty Rotten Scoundrelswith Jonathan Pryce. She appeared off-Broadway opposite Julie Andrews in Stephen Sondheim's Putting It Together and in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Dessa Rose. Most recently, Rachel was seen in The Best Is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman and created the role of Cruella de Vil in The 101 Dalmatians Musical directed by Jerry Zaks.

According to CBS New York, Broadway's Longacre Theatre, currently the home of MIKE TYSON: UNDISPUTED TRUTH, has been under the threat of attack from a still unidentified Twitter user. Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne told CBS that the NYPD is currently working with Twitter to find the user's information. Some of the Tweets, which were made August 3-4, included:

Previously announced actress Rachel York will star as Reno Sweeney and Fred Applegate will star as Moonface Martin. According to the Associated Press, HAIRSPRAY creator Mark O'Donnell passed away today in his Upper West Side home. He was 58 years old.

According to the Huffington Post, Broadway veteran Laura Bell Bundy hs signed on for a multi-epsiode arc on CW's 'Hart of Dixie.' Bundy will play a love interest for Tucker beginning October 16.

The Public Theater is currently presenting the Shakespeare in the Park production of INTO THE WOODS at the Delacorte Theater. Directed by Timothy Sheader with co-direction by Liam Steel, INTO THE WOODS is running for five weeks through Saturday, August 25, with an official press opening on Thursday, August 9. Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Howard & Janet Kagan announced today that THE ANARCHIST, a new play written and directed by DAVID MAMET starring PATTI LuPONE and DEBRA WINGER, previously announced to be presented at the Lyceum Theatre, will now be presented on Broadway at the newly refurbished Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street). According to Hollywood.com, Spike Lee, who directed Undisputed Truth that opened last week at the Longacre Theatre, wants to bring 'Do the Right Thing' to Broadway next. Lee revealed that he is 'talking to Sir James Nederlander about it.'

The West End production of Blood Brothers, which has been running at the Phoenix Theatre for almost 24 years will close on October 27. The show will have played over 10,000 upon its closing night.

According to the New York Times, John C. McGinley has joined previously announced Al Pacino, David Harbour, Richard Schiff, Bobby Cannavale and Jeremy Shamos in the Broadway revival of David Mamet'S acclaimed Pulitzer Prize-winning drama GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS. The 'Scrubs' actor will play 'Dave Moss.'

Patrick Page played his final performance as 'The Green Goblin' in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark yesterday, August 5. Broadway star Robert Cuccioli, best known for his Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle winning and Tony-nominated performance as the star of Jekyll and Hyde, will take on the role in his long-anticipated return to Broadway. Cuccioli will play his first performance on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street). Today in 1995, the first Broadway revival of Damn Yankees closed at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 533 performances. Damn Yankees is a musical comedy with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend set during the 1950s in Washington, D.C., during a time when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball.

Christian Borle, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his role as 'Black Stache' in PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, recently departed his role for the filming of season two of NBC's SMASH. Taking over the role is Matthew Saldivar, who has been seen on Broadway as Steve in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, Sammy in THE WEDDING SINGER and Kenickie in GREASE. One of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, CATS will begin a new tour in 2013.
