Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Today in 1989, the first Broadway revival of Shenandoah opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 32 performances. Shenandoah is a musical that was written in 1975 with music by Gary Geld, lyrics by Peter Udell, and a book by Udell, Philip Rose and James Lee Barrett, based on Barrett's original screenplay for the 1965 film Shenandoah. The musical first opened at the Goodspeed Opera House in 1974 and then transferred to Broadway, opening on January 7, 1975. It ran on Broadway for a total of 1,050 performances, closing August 7, 1977. The production was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and won two, one for Best Actor in a Musical (John Cullum) and the other for Best Book of a Musical.

The Watermill Center held its annual summer benefit on Saturday, July 28th. Despite a downpour of rain, the spectacular event went on as planned with performance art and installations. Watermill International Summer Program Participants from over 25 countries created eight acres of installations and performances throughout the grounds of Watermill Center. The funds raised will support The Watermill Center's International Summer Program and year round Artist Residency Program, providing a unique environment for young and emerging artists to explore and develop their work. Bullet for Adolf, a new comedy by Woody Harrelson and Frankie Hyman, will receive its American premiere tonight, August 8. Directed by Harrelson-Academy Award nominee for The Messenger and The People vs. Larry Flynt-the show began performances on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street). BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Broadway veteran Paris Remillard has temporarily joined the cast of The Public Theater's INTO THE WOODS as 'Rapunzel's Prince.' Remillard is filling in for Cooper Grodin, who has been out of the show because of appendicitis. A Public Theater representative revealed that Grodin 'will be back very soon.'

As part of a new initiative supporting promising young artists Off-Broadway, The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director), in association with Patricia Hoag Simon, presents a new lab production of Songs for a New World with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. Songs for a New World began performances August 4 for a 6 performance limited engagement with the next performance scheduled for late night Saturday evening, August 11 at 11:00 p.m. at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's including special late-night performances on Fridays for "the show after the show."(Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Rodgers & Hammerstein's PIPE DREAM, recorded live at New York City Center's Encores! series in March, will be released by Ghostlight Records on September 18. Produced by Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company, this preservation of Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1955 Broadway musical rarity marks the first time an Encores! musical has been recorded live.

The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory on Wednesday, August 8th, at exactly 8:00 p.m. for one minute.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) and its Chairman, Hon. John F. Lehman, announced today the winners of the 2012 Princess Grace Awards. The Awards for theater, dance and choreography, and film continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during Her lifetime. This year's 25 Awards winners will travel to New York City, where they will receive their Awards at the 30th Anniversary Princess Grace Awards Gala, held in the presence of TSH The Prince and Princess of Monaco, on October 22, 2012 at Cipriani 42nd Street.

I had the privilege of working with Marvin Hamlisch in producing a Cirque Dreams segment for the Kennedy Center's 35th Anniversary Gala. His enthusiasm for unique performance art was unbounded and together we presented an aerial ballet performed live to "The Impossible Dream" under his direction of the National Symphony Orchestra Pops in an unforgettable event. Marvin's musical contributions to the world will live on forever.

Manhattan Theatre Club has just announced Tony Award nominee Jessica Hecht (Harvey, A View From The Bridge, Brighton Beach Memoirs) and Tony and Emmy Award winner Judith Light (Other Desert Cities, Lombardi, "Ugly Betty") will star on Broadway in the world premiere of THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES, a new play by Tony Award winner Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out, The American Plan, Three Days of Rain) directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow (Wit, Collected Stories, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife).

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) announced today that it will extend Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved musical INTO THE WOODS one final week through Saturday, September 1. The Shakespeare in the Park production, part of The Public's 50th Anniversary season at the Delacorte, will officially open on Thursday, August 9.
