STAGE TUBE: On This Day 11/2- GREY GARDENSNovember 2, 2012Today in 2006, Grey Gardens opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it ran for 307 performances. Grey Gardens is a musical with book by Doug Wright, music by Scott Frankel, and lyrics by Michael Korie, based on the 1975 documentary of the same title about the lives of Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale ('Big Edie') and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale ('Little Edie') by Albert and David Maysles. The Beales were Jacqueline Kennedy's aunt and cousin, respectively. Set at Grey Gardens, the Bouviers' mansion in East Hampton, New York, the musical tracks the progression of the two women's lives from their original status as rich and socially polished aristocrats to their eventual largely isolated existence in a home overrun by cats and cited for repeated health code violations.
Idina Menzel Reschedules Carnegie Hall Concert for January 13, 2013November 1, 2012According to Idina Menzel's website, her Carnegie Hall concert, which was originally scheduled for October 29, and then rescheduled for November 4, has now been pushed back to January 13, 2013. Cyndi Lauper & Harvey Fierstein Making Changes to KINKY BOOTSNovember 1, 2012According to the Chicago Tribune, Cyndi Lauper just wrote a new song for Kinky Boots, which is currently playing in Chicago. 'I Come to the Rescue,' which was featured in the Act 1, has been replaced by a song called 'Step One.' Lauper wrote the song last weekend and it was added to the show on Tuesday night. Additionally, book writer Harvey Fierstein has added 37 new pages to the script since opening night.
Emily Bergl, Michael Park and More Join Cast of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOFNovember 1, 2012Additional casting and the design team has been announced for Tennessee Williams' CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF starring Scarlett Johansson as Maggie, Ciaran Hinds as Big Daddy, Benjamin Walker as Brick and Debra Monk as Big Mama, directed by Rob Ashford. CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF will open at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street) on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Previews will begin Tuesday, December 18. Restored FUNNY GIRL to Open TCM Film Festival, 4/25November 1, 2012Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will open the 2013 edition of the TCM Classic Film Festival with the world premiere of a brand new restoration of the musical classic Funny Girl (1968). TCM's own Robert Osborne, who serves as official host for the festival, will introduce Funny Girl to kick off the four-day, star-studded event taking place Thursday, April 25 - Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Hollywood. In addition to Funny Girl, the TCM Classic Film Festival will feature world premiere restorations of The General (1926), Giant (1956) and The Great Escape (1962), with many additional titles to be announced later.
