Mesmerized by the daily broadcasts by top television networks of sensational courtroom dramas during 1990s, a young playwright noticed similarities to the 18th century trials in London. He worked off a collision of two ideas: one antiquated and one modern; one firmly rooted in the history of crime and punishment and the other as near as the television. The result was his play, 'Kite's Book: Tales of an 18th Century Hitman.'

Sonoma State University Department of Theatre Arts & Dance presents 'How I Learned to Drive' by Paula Vogel. The production will be directed by Danielle Cain.

Cinnabar Theater will present 'Crimes of the Heart' by Beth Henley. This Pulitzer Prize winning play tells the story of a troubled family escaping their past to seize the future. Winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, 'Crimes of the Heart' is a 'dramedy' about the dysfunctional Magrath family and how they come together following tragedy. Heartfelt, zany and irreverent this play teems with humanity and humor as it examines the plight of three Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions.

Open auditions will be held on October 8 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and October 10 from 7:00pm to 9:30pm for A WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION at Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Falmouth Road (Rte. 28) in Cotuit. Director Carol McManus seeks actors, singers, dancers, jugglers, jesters, serving maids and wenches for this production of theater, dance and music, in a Medieval setting, saluting the winter solstice. Music direction by Patti Anderson and choreography by Michele Colley help to make this holiday production, fun for all.

A chess game between international masters takes on larger meaning in the award-winning 1980s rock opera 'Chess,' which is currently touring the UK. The next stop is Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre, where it will open on September 24 before a run in London's West End.
