With the current state of theatre in the world and in Dayton, I have been struggling to come up with ideas for things to write.  Honestly, we all know it has been completely depressing and we all want things to get back to normal - to be able to see a show, to be on stage, to be behind the scenes again.  The coronavirus has other plans and I am not sure when things will ever be completely back to normal or what a new normal might look like.  So, it came to me. I am going to start a weekly column here on Broadway World Dayton. 

Even if Spongebob has never been your cup of tea, there is something for everyone to enjoy at SPONGEBOB: THE MUSICAL, playing until Sunday at the Schuster Center for the Performing Arts.

While you may leave The Human Race with a giant craving for birthday cake like I did, you should make time to go to see THE CAKE.

La Comedia Dinner Theatre has the perfect way to usher in the summer with your family.  Make your way to the theatre to see Disney's NEWSIES before it leaves on June 9.

VIOLET, music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics/book by Brian Crawley, opened on Broadway in 2014.  It is the story of Violet, a young woman with a disfigured face, on a quest for a miracle to heal her scars and therefore, solve all of her problems.  On the way, she learns that outward appearances are not always what they seem and to find true happiness, you have to look beyond what you see.

Today, the Board of Directors of The Dayton Playhouse, Inc. (DPI) announced the cancellation of the March 8-17, 2019 production of To Kill A Mockingbird due to circumstances beyond the organization's control.
