i-ACT, a South Bay-based non-profit grassroots activist organization, will present a fundraising event and exhibit entitled, "ONE STRONG KICK," benefiting The 2012 Darfur United All-Refugee Soccer Team from Darfur, Sudan, which will compete for the coveted Nelson Mandela Trophy in the 2012 Viva World Cup to be held in Iraqi Kurdistan from June 5 - 9, 2012. The fundraising event will be held at a private residence in Manhattan Beach, CA on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 6:30 - 10:00 p.m.

Remaining performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. Part 1 runs Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. Part 2 runs Friday and Saturday evening.

The Wizard of Oz, the spectacular musical that has captured the hearts of people all over the world, is being presented by the OBC Theater at The Grove Theatre, opening Friday, May 4th at 7:29 pm. Featuring the classic songs, 'Over the Rainbow,' 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead' and 'If I only had a Brain' along with the beloved characters, Dorothy, Toto, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow, and the citizens of Munchkinland, the Emerald City and the Haunted Forest, this production of The Wizard of Oz is directed by Amanda Kalkanis and choreographed by Michael Milligan, with set and costumes designed by Nancy Gettinger.

TheatreSquared today announced the lineup for the 2012 Arkansas New Play Festival, the theatre's fourth annual celebration of new works for the stage. The festival will feature staged reading performances of four professional plays, a showcase of ten-minute plays by Arkansas high school students, and Northwest Arkansas's sixth annual 24-Hour Play-Off. In partnership with the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, T2's lineup of new works will also be presented at Oxford American Magazine's new venue in Little Rock (1300 Main Street, May 17-18). The lineup of events in Northwest Arkansas will take place at Walton Arts Center's Nadine Baum Studios (505 W. Spring St., Fayetteville). Each new play reading will be followed by a conversation with the playwright, director and cast.

William Burdett-Coutts, the artistic director of Assembly Theatre, the organisation which ran Fringe shows at the Assembly Rooms before moving to George Square due to the building's refurbishment in 2010, has suggested that Assembly Fringe is 'passing off'. As previously reported in BroadwayWorld, the Assembly Fringe will be running shows in the Assembly Rooms this year from July onwards.

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, The Broadway Comedy Club in NYC will host the "Makin' Whoopie Comedy Show - Sex & the City Style." It is the first time the event travels to NYC featuring six funny ladies, burlesque dancers, and a singer doing a special rendition of the song Makin' Whoopee. There have been several other Makin' Whoopie Comedy Shows that sold out in DC and Easton, MD. The event will benefit Women In Need (WIN), a NY-based non-profit that provides shelter to homeless women and their children as well as the tools to lead independent lives.
