A Celebration of Elaine Stritch' was held today, November 17, at 4 p.m. at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, featuring Bernadette Peters, Nathan Lane, Lena Hall, Hal Prince, Betty Buckley, Christine Ebersole, Laura Benanti, Michael Feinstein and more, all on hand to share songs and stories of the theatre legend's life. LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater's production of brownsville song (b-side for tray), a new play by Kimber Lee, directed by Patricia McGregor, opened last night, October 20, at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street). This New York premiere, which features Sheldon Best, Sun Mee Chomet, Lizan Mitchell, Chris Myers and Taliyah Whitaker, is playing a limited engagement through Sunday, November 16. Premieres, the New York based music theater organization whose mission is 'to bring new music theater to light,' presents this season's Inner Voices, the biannual series of solo works featuring news teams of playwrights and composers. Performances started on Saturday, October 4th at The TBG Theatre (312 West 36th Street - between 8th & 9th Avenues). Opening Night is this Saturday, October 11th at 8:00pm. Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of Bootycandy, a new play written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (director of In the Continuum, author of Antebellum and Insurrection: Holding History). Bootycandy is the opening production of the Playwrights Horizons2014/2015 Season. The production opened on September 10 and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, October 12 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The Shapiro Sisters' debut album LIVE OUT LOUD: LIVE AT 54 BELOW will be released on September 9th, 2014. The Shapiro Sisters, 11-year old Milly Shapiro (Matilda, Original Broadway Cast of Matilda The Musical) and older sister, 14-year-old Abigail Shapiro (Cindy Lou Who, How The Grinch Stole Christmas), recorded the album live at the famed 54 BELOW over a series of three performances this past May and June. The Shapiro Sisters will be returning to 54 BELOW this Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 PM for an encore performance to celebrate the launch of their new CD. Ollie joins a cast lead by Ruthie Henshall who plays Mrs Wilkinson, Billy's dance teacher, and becomes the thirty-eighth boy to perform the iconic role at the Victoria Palace Theatre and the seventy-fifth boy to perform the role world-wide. Off-Center series, will star Jordan Dean, Hunter Foster, Mamie Parris, Randy Redd, Katie Thompson and Lorenzo Wolff, with Austin Moorhead on guitar. Pump Boys, running July 16 - 19, will be directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Danny Mefford. Jeanine Tesori is the Encores! Off-Center artistic director; Chris Fenwick is the music director.
