Pollyanna Theatre Company will premiere a surreal new play with music, Through the Slumber Glass, at the Boyd Vance Theater at the Carver Jan. 24 to Feb. 1. Tickets, which are $9, are available here. Written by the creative minds of the Austin band Last Visible Dog, Through the Slumber Glass invites the audience to journey through the sleeping dreams of a young boy on the night before a big math test. With the help of fish from the tank in his bedroom, his favorite toy sheep and the number 9, Our Plucky Hero takes us through a musical, mathematical, magical dream path that is a very playful look at some of the most frequently asked questions of childhood. Through the Slumber Glass is a surreal adventure that introduces young audiences to a highly stylized yet totally recognizable story, said Director Judy Matetzschk-Campbell. Afterall, everyone has had those dreams that defy waking logic but that can hold amazing meaning. Like all of Pollyannas productions for children, Through the Slumber Glass also provides an opportunity for learning alongside entertainment. Study guides available for teachers and parents will explore the concept of symbolism and the roots of the surrealistic art movement. Ideal for ages seven and older, Through the Slumber Glass invites children and adults to explore dreams and symbolism in a playful and fun-filled adventure story.
