Ring in the New Year at Dad's Garage Theatre! Tonight, December 31st at 7pm and again at 10 pm - we'll be providing our audience with a belly full of laughs and somewhat palate-able champagne! As per usual, you'll see a cavalcade of ridiculous improvised games and scenes starring a collection of the finest improvisers from our Ensemble. And - because this show sells out every year, we've added a second show! There's one starting at 7pm for those of you that want to ring in the New Year somewhere else and one starting at 10pm for those of you that want to ring in the New Year with us jerks. Either way - you get a glass of champagne and a patented Dad's Garage toast. It's win/win! Come watch our peaches drop!

THE ADVENTURES OF MIGHTY BUG Buzzes into Center for Puppetry Arts, Jan 31

Atlanta families will want to make a beeline for the upcoming production of The Adventures of Mighty Bug at Center for Puppetry Arts. From January 31 - March 17, the Center takes audiences on a trip to Bugville, a jumpin' little insect community that swings to the Bugville Boogie and the sweet sounds of WBUG Radio star Morpha Butterfly. Watching over the ants, fleas, crickets, water spiders, beetles and bees is the one and only Mighty Bug, a superhero with super strength, smelling, hearing and flying abilities. But the evil arachnid, Scorpiana, also has her eye on Bugville, and she has assembled a group to attack the crawling city. Filled with plenty of insect trivia and facts, this comic book style adventure story will give audiences the chance to be a fly on the wall as good battles evil and the future of Bugville hangs on the line.
ArtsVibe Teen Program Announces Inaugural Teen Council; Holiday Party Set for Today

The Wells Fargo ArtsVibe Teen Program - a new initiative to engage metropolitan Atlanta teenagers as active participants in the arts - has announced the inaugural ArtsVibe Teen Council. Forty-nine teens throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area were selected to participate, and the students will work closely with arts administrators from the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, High Museum of Art, and Young Audiences to help program and promote ArtsVibe events to their fellow peers in the Atlanta community.

Atlanta Symphony Announces January Concerts

Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of The Nature of Light, a clarinet concerto by Atlanta School of Composers member Michael Gandolfi, which was written for Principal Clarinet Laura Ardan. The program will also include Rimsky-Korsakov'sScheherazade and the Atlanta Symphony premiere of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5 with pianist Juho Pohjonen. Tickets are $23-$67.

Horizon Theatre Receives $75,000 from Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund

On December 6, 2012 The Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund hosted its Arts Fund Luncheon where it announced Horizon Theatre as one of the 15 nonprofit arts organizations receiving grants and support in 2012. For nearly 20 years, the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund has been supporting small and midsized arts organizations and has invested more than $10.2 million dollars in grants and guidance to strengthen the capacity and vitality of the arts in the region. Horizon received a grant for $75,000 toward general operating support.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will host its third annual Symphony Gala on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. The evening will include a performance by Grammy Award winner Steve Martin and bluegrass band the Steep Canyon Rangers with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Proceeds will benefit the Orchestra and its Education and Community programs.

Alliance Receives NEA Grant for Playwriting Competition

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced last week that the Alliance Theatre is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The $40,000 grant was given to the Alliance National Graduate Playwriting Competition supporting the 2013 competition winner Bike America, as well as the staged reading series for the four competition finalists.
