The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. announced today that after an extensive search they have appointed Denice Brooks as Executive Director. Ms. Brooks will assume the position effective April 15.

"We are so excited that Denice Brooks and The Suzi Bass Awards found each other. Denice brings invaluable experience in non-profit management and theatre as well as a wealth of energy to the Suzis," said Board Chair Beth Davis.

Ms. Brooks is a professional singer who has toured internationally with artists including Luther Vandross and Natalie Cole, and appeared on Broadway in shows including Porgy and Bess and Showboat, just to name a few. Brooks also has over 15 years of non-profit experience, with expertise in sustainable funding, strategic planning, non profit executive training, event fundraising and special events.

Expressing her enthusiasm at heading up an organization so integral to the Atlanta theatre community, Ms. Brooks said, "I believe that theatre is the heart, soul, and spirit of live entertainment. I am excited and honored to take the helm of this beloved organization in this theatre-rich city." The Suzi Awards is in its tenth year, and has been growing steadily since it was founded by a small group of theatre professionals including the late Gene-Gabriel Moore, Deadra Moore (no relation), current Board Member Dianne Butler, and current Advisory Board Members Paul Holly and Yolanda Asher. During its first decade the Suzi Bass Awards has become an integral part of the Atlanta professional theatre community.

Ms. Brooks' appointment follows long-time Executive Director Deadra Moore's stepping down in January of this year to resume her acting career. Ms. Moore remains a dedicated volunteer to the organization.
