New Gospel Version Of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR Opens 1/21
A new gospel version of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's ground-breaking score comes to Atlanta...
Experience Jesus Christ Superstar as you've never seen it before - as gospel choirs raise the roof off Atlanta's ALLIANCE THEATRE.Opening on 21st January with previews from 14th January, this unique version of the hit score will move audiences to new heights, with an inspirational beat to classics like "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Everything's Alright" and "Could We Start Again Pease."
With the largest cast on the Alliance stage since the world premiere of the Tony Award®-winning The Color Purple, Jesus Christ Superstar is one of the few blockbuster musicals new to the theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. This version will celebrate Atlanta's rich gospel tradition, with extraordinary local choirs on stage alongside a Broadway-caliber cast - 35 of the 50 performers are Atlanta-based.
The new interpretation has been developed by Louis St. Louis, an experienced Broadway and film composer and music director (credits include Smokey Joe's Café, Grease, Grease 2 and Mahogany) whose own musical roots spring from the Detroit Pentecostal Church. Jesus Christ Superstar GOSPEL will be a premiere event rediscovering and further enlivening this famous and beloved rock opera.
