Chilean-Irish artist Vaticanjail has released 'BUBU,' the first standout single from her upcoming EP, this could have been a text, due out October 1.

'BUBU' sonically serves as an investigation into the world of sinking realization. Vaticanjail highlights her magical realism and sampling absurdity to flawlessly reflect the true nature of heartbreak. The passion in the track's sections and arrangement, alongside its nonlinear narrative cohesion, reflect the disorientation of emotional rupture.

Driven by rapid drum programming and restless bassline movement, 'BUBU' also alludes to a growing disconnection from reality and ways avoidance can propel us to escape.

The track feels like a party, representing seeking relief in hedonism, especially when we are not ready to face challenge, or the rupture of what we once knew as a foundation. Vaticanjail highlights how a breakup forces us to start over, and how the clarity needed to undertake that task is preceded by mania.

'Before my breakup, I wrote so much music to do with breakups because I wanted to give the feeling to someone else, a character that at the time I thought I had invented, but it was really me trying to cope with things. I basically wrote half of a breakup album before a breakup and the first real track was 'BUBU.' Then a month went by, and I found myself in a real life breakup and oh my god it was manic. I had to break up, move house, start a new job and I knew the only way out of it all was through it.

'I think 'BUBU' is about transformation and being out of something to be able to look in.'

this could have been a text represents the moment in time in relationships where people's affection turns to affliction. Across the EP, Vaticanjail explores the nature of attachment and the acceptance that can come with detachment. Narrating the story of a heart-wrenching journey a lover goes through towards the realization that love's eternity has an expiration date, Vaticanjail highlights the transformation that follows through self permission and search of identity.

'We let go of a realm of romantic intensity built by more than one person and discover the grandiosity of one crafted by individuality.

'Young women especially (because we put up with more I guess, in my case to avoid being alone) deserve so much more than they receive in romantic relationships. I think I was processing this change before it even happened, and the contrast between chapters really helped me be proud of myself, find love from within and in my beautiful friends, lean into my curiosity about life and surrender to freedom.'

The realization at the heart of this could have been a text is ultimately one of transformation. Transitioning from a relationship's indifference, the music represents the awareness, curiosity and transformation that follows in search for identity. Vaticanjail shares releasing the romantic intensity crafted by a relationship and creating a life built through individuality.

Vaticanjail recently played the Mother Block Party at Dublin Pride with Sofi Tukker, Cakes Da Killer, and the Global Roots Festival in Waterford. More live dates are currently in the works and will be announced shortly.
