Today, we are taking a look at a clip from the 1984 Tony Awards and the original Broadway cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES which was that year's big winner, starring Gene Barry and George Hearn under the direction of Arthur Laurents with a score by Jerry Herman, book by Harvey Fierstein and produced by Alan Carr.

In this lovingly restored and remastered clip taken from the BROADWAY'S LOST TREASURES Collection we can glean a glimpse of what this truly glitteringly glorious musical must have been like. Few ensemble dancing corps have ever equaled the wizardry and artistry of the original company of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES under the choreographic leadership of that year's Best Choreographer, Scott Salmon. After the costume parade and production number portion of "We Are What We Are" comes the heartfelt, finely honed performance of George Hearn out of the Zaza drag but still fully playing the madcap character for all that he/she is worth. Wonderful!

That's all for today, be sure to stay tuned to BroadwayWorld everyday until Tony Award Sunday for all Tony Award-related news, articles, interviews and digital media. 'Til tomorrow...
