Tony Award Winning Comedy Comes to Gretna Theatre

Christopher Durang's hilarious Tony Award-winning Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, is coming to Gretna Theatre. Audience members will resonate with the relatable issues presented in Durang's play. Themes of family, and love are intertwined in a creative, comical way that has never been seen before on stage. Uncontrollable laughter is promised when watching Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

In the funniest new American play in years, award-winning playwright Christopher Durang combines the work of Chekhov with his own offbeat sensibility to create what Newsday calls "one of the funniest comedies Broadway has seen in seasons." You have to feel something for the three siblings whose community theatre loving parents named them after characters from Chekhov. Vanya and Sonia have lived at home while their sister Masha has travelled the world starring in movies. Now Masha is back, with her very young boy toy Spike, and she's intent on selling the house. Comedy ensues.

The cast for this farce include local and national actors: Robert Meksin (Vanya), Dori Legg (Sonia), Carol Halstead (Masha), Max Falls (Spike), Jessica Johnson (Cassandra), and Grace Atherholt (Nina). Most of these performers have previously played in Vanya and ... Spike at other regional theatres across the nation while some are experiencing the comedic play for the first time. Carol Halstead, who plays Masha, will be performing for her fourth time in this play.

The creative team includes: Lighting Design (Diana Duecker), Sound Design (Jonathan Shuey), Costume Design (Melanie Green), Properties Design (Natasha Oliver), and set design (Kyle Dixon). With direction by Dennis Courtney, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will leave audience members laughing in their seats long after the curtain closes.
