A woman tug captain has teamed with a juggling showboat captain to bring two antique vessels to Brooklyn Bridge Park Friday, August 27t- Wednesday,September 1. "Tug & Barge Week" will feature free public tugboat trips and free barge tours. The Waterfront Museum, housed aboard the 1914 Lehigh Valley Barge No.79, and the 1907 Tugboat Pegasus are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike or use mass transit to visit the new dock located in Brooklyn Heights at the foot of Atlantic Avenue behind the new playground.

Brooklyn Bridge Park President Regina Myer said "We're thrilled to welcome the Waterfront Museum and the Tug Pegasus, two beloved Brooklyn attractions, to Brooklyn Bridge for an Inaugural visit. We thank the Conservancy for supporting these great programs and invite families to experience the joys of the harbor aboard these maritime gems."

During the 2009 Quadricentennial Celebrations, Captain Pamela Hepburn and Bargemaster David Sharps visited communities up and down the Hudson River to celebrate Henry Hudson, Samuel DeChamplain and Robert Fulton and their achievements, which enhanced our region through maritime exploration and discovery. This year, they continue to celebrate waterfront improvements and access as they christen Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6 with historic vessels. The Tug & Barge then visit various waterfront communities and festivals, including Cold Spring and Wateford, NY and Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. Working in collaboration with local communities, the traveling tug and barge showcase the great potential of the water highway for public access and opportunities in education, commerce and recreation today.
