On Wednesday, June 30th, The Brooklyn Cyclones, the Class A Minor League affiliate of the NY Mets, is organizing a "Celebrate Pride" Night at MCU Park and will be donating $2 per group ticket sold to the Ali Forney Center, the nation's largest organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth.

This special event marks one of the first times a professional sports team is outwardly supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. The Brooklyn Cyclones' decision to make this effort clearly demonstrates their leadership as a sports affiliate actively willing to support the LGBT community.

This support also proves that mainstream organizations like the Brooklyn Cyclones, are increasingly becoming more aware of and sensitive to the issues that LGBT people face today. With the recent Gallup Poll where American's acceptance for gay relations went over the 50% mark for the first time, an action like the one the Cyclones are taking shows that with an increase in acceptance of the LGBT community comes understanding, and even, as in this case, support.

The Ali Forney Center (AFC) was started in June 2002 in response to the lack of safe shelter for LGBT youth in New York City. They have grown quickly to become the nation's largest and most comprehensive organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth. They are committed to providing LGBT youth with safe, dignified, nurturing environments where their needs can be met and where they can begin to put their lives back together. The center provides short and long term housing in Manhattan and Brooklyn, plus free medical care, HIV testing, mental health services, showers, food, computer access and job training and placement at its drop-in centers in Chelsea and Brooklyn.

Tickets for the event are either: $25 and include free dinner (starting at 5:30pm), bleacher seating and a souvenir cap and can be purchased by calling Ian McFate at 718-382-2604

or $8 for bleacher seats which can be purchased at
