Steven Reineke conducts NYSMF Orchestra with Ann Hampton Callaway 8/4

On August 4, 2010, The New York Pops conductor Steven Reineke will conduct the New York Summer Music Festival Pops Orchestra in a free concert in Oneonta, New York. Multi-platinum singer Ann Hampton Callaway joins the orchestra in a program entitled "The Lady Is a Song." The concert will be held at 8:00pm at the SUNY Oneonta College's Goodrich Theater. The performance is part of the New York Summer Music Festival's 2010 season.

The New York Summer Music Festival (NYSMF) is a summer music camp that offers 50 ensembles and classes and puts on 40 concerts over its six-week season. The instructors are faculty and alumni from Julliard, the Curtis Institute of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, The New York Pops, New York University, the Eastman School of Music, the Copland School of music and more. Internationally renowned visiting artists from the Chick Corea Akoustic Band, the Mingus Big Band, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera, the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, the DIVA Jazz Orchestra and more come to teach students, host master classes and put on free public concerts in the town of Oneonta.

NYSMF gives musicians ages 11-25 the opportunity to perform weekly concerts and to play for hours every day alongside the exceptional faculty and visiting artists. Students of all skill levels may participate in NYSMF's orchestras, bands, jazz ensembles, chamber music ensembles, and choirs. Also available are classes in film making, musical theater production, practical acting, opera scenes, music history and theory.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Steven Reineke's boundless enthusiasm and exceptional artistry have made him one of the nation's most sought-afterpops conductors, composers and arrangers. Reineke begins his second season as Music Director of The New YorkPops. In addition to conducting the orchestra's annual Carnegie Hall concert series, Reineke leads concert tours,recordings, and nationwide telecasts, including the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks on NBC Television. Mr. Reineke alsoserves as Principal Pops Conductor of the Long Beach and Modesto Symphony Orchestras and he retains the title ofAssociate Conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, where for fifteen years he served as a composer, arranger, andconducting protégé of the late celebrated pops conductor Erich Kunzel. Steven Reineke's notable guest conductingappearances include the National Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Philadelphia Orchestra and his debut at the Hollywood Bowl in 2007. Mr. Reineke is also an established symphonic composer, with the most recent performances ofhis works by the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Ann Hampton Callaway

As a champion of the great American Songbook, Ann Hampton Callaway has made her mark as a singer, pianist,composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host and producer. She is best known for her Tony-nominatedperformance in the hit Broadway musical Swing! and for writing and singing the theme song to the hit TV series TheNanny. Callaway is a Platinum Award-winning writer whose songs are featured on five of Barbra Streisand's recent CDs.The only composer to have collaborated with Cole Porter, she has also written songs with Carole King, Rolf Lovland andBarbara Carroll to name a few. Ann recently released her most powerful recording to date called At Last on TelarcRecords. Ann devotes much of her time to philanthropic causes, both as a singer performing in numerous benefits, and asa songwriter composing songs in times of need, including "Let the Saints Come Marching," written to honor HurricaneKatrina victims, and Who Can See the Blue the Same Again?," which paid tribute to tsunami survivors. In the aftermath ofSeptember 11th, Ann composed the stirring anthem, "I Believe in America" and the world-renowned "Let Us Be United".Ann resides in New York
